I was thinking about buying a controller (running XP on a Macbook), is the wired 360-style controller worth £18 or is there something better for the money. This one:

(can't link directly to it as it's on a competitor's site)

its really a great buy if you play a lot of games on the pc (like me) and ive never had any complaints at all. its also being supported straight out the box with newer pc games so its really easy to setup and play.

What about the older games, are they supported? (every game I've got is on Steam)

It depends on the game.. do you have any particular games in mind?

I've found it to work with the vast majority of games I own :)

There's always xpadder http://www.xpadder.com/ if you get totally stuck.
Seems fine in most games though.

If it's of interest, probably not if you're on a laptop, but you can get the wireless controller and wireless USB receiver thing for about £24 and maybe less if you shop around. That bundle is sold as "Xbox 360 Wireless Controller For Windows"

Max Payne 2 is the game that made me think about getting a controller.

I'm never going to be far enough away from my screen to make it worth my while. Wired fines for my needs.

If you're an eBay user you might want to see if you can snap one up cheap there. I got one for £11.50 a few weeks back.

I find it difficult to really get into PC gaming using a keyboard and mouse unless it's either a strategy game or multiplayer fps.

Just ordered the controller in the OP, cheers for the advice.
Racing games need a controller imo, love gta with the controller as well :)

ive got tons of games i use it with via steam, if its not native to the game then you can use xpadder or pinnacle pad profiler to work round it. even got it to work like a mouse in torchlight :D
Ill have to look at those 2 myself

As said above, the wireless one is better, no trailing cables, can sit back and relax.
Never thought of getting wireless one, same reason i don't have a wireless mouse i guess.. Plus it was more expensive, plus the max distance of the wired controller reaches my bed, and that far away its hard to see whats happening sort of on my 23"
