Xbox 360 Controller for PC Gaming

Just ordered a wired one, wouldn't mind getting the wireless ones as long as it came with a rechargeable pack and a recharge cable, but when I had an xbox you had to buy these separately, though they were well worth it.

It really was a nice pad to use on the xbox.

So wired/wireless 360 controllers work on PC then, you dont need to buy a pc specific model?
well there called windows xbox 360 controlers. They have a USB at end which can be taken on and off..

So yes I guess you need the windows model and can't just buy any normal one and get the USB converter and then dl the drivers

Wired ones are all the same, you don't need a specific Windows version. Plug it in and on Windows 7 at least it's basically completely plug and play. They're all USB, they use USB to connect to the 360, no 'USB adaptor' needed.

The wireless ones need an adaptor (wireless receiver) so you can either buy a regular 360 wireless controller and get the PC wireless receiver separately or you can get the designed for Windows pack which has a wireless controller and a PC receiver in it.

Wireless would be nice but once you factor in the receiver and batteries or rechargeable packs etc. it ends up a fair bit more expensive and considering how close most people sit to their PCs it's probably not worth the extra for most.

A fair bit heavier too. The cable is long enough for most people.

I have a wii and a ps2 but had never used an xbox360 controller ever. On building this PC i got Dirt2 free with the graphics card and decided to plump for the 360 wired controller. Great investment, feels really solid, comfortable and responsive (the d-pad is a bit weak) but other than that it is imo great. It also seems that the vast majority of new games on PC that benefits from a control pad input are being designed to work the xbox pad as default. I have yet to have any problems at all with the pad. I have just bought GTA4 and look forward to using it on this. a quality buy.

Walked into a high street store and although I had the wired version they had the wireless controller complete with the dongle for £25!

Unfortunately it must have been a one off but its a must have when it comes to gaming.
