Xbox 360: Keyboard and Mouse adapter for Fps games?

The problem with these converters is that the games aren't made for the Keyboard/mouse so there is analog smoothing and deadzones etc which make games pretty unplayable with a mouse :p

If you read about the way the xim works along with the software that comes with it you see how they deal with the deadzones etc. Some games wont work at all well with it but the main games such as cod, gears, halo have excellent results. Check out the videos of it in action as see for it yourself.

It looks impossible to get one if the xims.. I can't find them anywhere.. However the snipers are available so I might get one. I don't class it as cheating but I feel the same as above.. I'd get more enjoyment from games even in sp mode. When I get one I'll five a quick review :)

The xims can only be imported from America http://stores.ebay.com/XIM-Technologies
Out of stock just now but i’d imagine they would be back in soon. BE warned the sniper is not particularly well thought of especially compared to the xim.

As for these folk spouting “cheating scumbags” and the like how is it any different to using a wheel and pedals? I don’t like the lack of control offered by a pad and if these units were cheaper I wouldn’t hesitate in getting one. The pad lessens my enjoyment whist playing fps games not just online but single player too.

Funny how the rest of the xbox community can manage with the control pad with little fuss.

Sounds like sour grapes from the KB/M lot.

The best thing to do is to practice with the 360 controller. Play the game through in single player (preferably in the Hard level setting) and by the end of the game it will be second nature.

These games are not designed for KB/M use and chances are you will be equally as **** and out of pocket

Also Steering wheel comparisons are stupid as the steering wheel actually makes playing the game harder not easier (just because cars use steering wheels and pedals does not mean they are the best control method)

im in two minds about this because a PC gamer is allowed to use a pad with games?

some people just cant get to grips with pads so i think the option to be able to use a keyboard and a mouse with a console.

in some aspects its like forcing someone who is left handed to use a right handed device, its not going to be confortable for them at all and they should not suffer because if it.

The difference is the games actually support devices like wheels and fightsticks; with this you using a device to trick the machine into accepting gamepad input via mouse/keyboard, which is the significant difference IMO.

Get one of these if you want to enhance your single player experience but I think it's pretty poor to take it into online multiplayer.

I'm in the "learn to use a pad and stfu" camp.

If you don't like playing the game with a pad, buy it on PC.

Completely different. What about using a guitar over a pad for guitar hero? Or an Ace Edge for Ace Combat? Is that cheating?

Of course not, the steering wheel and other controllers have been designed for those games, your not using an adapter to force an unsupported controller like you would for a M+K.

But the options available for everyone on PC, and how often does it give an advantage?

Never bothered me. ;)

Agree, it's the same as someone using a rapid fire pad, you're only doing it to give yourself an edge over your opponents. Bots don't care either way, it's different in multiplayer.

I cant understand if your in a situation where you still want this game and have a PC thats able to play it why would you buy the console version, and you prefer mouse and keyboard to game pad? Its the same game ffs! You think your shafting them over for doing what they did to the PC version buying spending more money on the console version?

I would not say its much of an advantage to use a keyboard and mouse vs good pad players anyway? Some people are VERY good with pads, and some people are pants with them, same with a keyboard and a mouse. There are always going to be people better then you who have accessories to improve their gameplay (surround sound set ups, Large HDTVs that others cant afford etc etc) and imo this is no different

Imo a good M+K player would beat a good pad player, A poor M+K player would beat a poor pad player, etc.

I don't think there's any doubt that a M+K is the more accurate control method.

It's completely different. Someone that plays well on a HDTV will play equally well on a SDTV. Skill doesn't magically appear and disappear with screen size.

I'm pretty sure people buy bigger TVs to enhance their experience, not to increase their skill.

To those who play PC games and are so used to mouse and keyboard you can't be bothered to practice with a gamepad: how much does it annoy you when people use aimbots or wallhacks?

It's pretty much the same thing (admittedly to a lesser extent but still). You're gaining more control than a pad player has meaning you're at an advantage to 99% of players out there. Any justification you may give for this still does not take away from the fact you're at an advantage.

I disagree flame, but thats the wonderful thing about a forum

A larger screen makes it a lot easier to see certain movements etc, same with sound a good sound set up, you can hear a lot more from professional gaming headphones then you can with standard TV audio.

But ho hum.

I'd agree they give you a slight advantage, particularly sound, but only a good player would be able to interpret surround sound and translate it into the thought that there's someone over there. A poor player would still waddle on completely oblivious.

As for screen size I'm not so sure that it's an advantage, I'm sure I'd notice the same things on one of my 24" monitors that I'd see on my 32" TV, after all the resolution is exactly the same.

I'm sure the difference between HD and SD makes a big difference, but where do you draw the line? I'm more likely to see an enemy on my HDTV than a 6" black and white monitor, but how am I gaining an unfair advantage if someone is using outdated technology?

My argument is that if it's been designed for use with the game or console, fair play. I'm not going to feel unfairly beaten by someone with a bigger TV than me, that would be petty.
If someone is trying to make a peripheral work that hasn't been designed to work with the console, I'd say it's an unfair advantage.

But certainly the mouse and keyboard converter has been designed for the console. Hence its existence .....

Sure its not made by Microsoft themselves but whats to stop people developing things for other platforms?

again don't get me wrong im not saying that the peripheral is "morally" right to use, but still i can see why certain people might want to use it.

Its not been designed by MS to be used on their consoles. MS do not endorse the use of kb/m on the 360 for games, hence the support is not natively provided.

These KB/M adapters are hacks

Ive never said they where designed by Microsoft, but they have still been designed to be used on the product.

but regardless we can play swings and round abouts all day, it will get us no where. Its my opinion and im entitled to it, as you are with yours.

I think this is my point basically. It's a component not licensed by the console manufacturer. There's loads of people that have developed robots that play Guitar Hero with a near perfect success rate. Would it be fair if you came up against one? It's not licenced, but it's been developed to play the game. By your theory that would make it ok?

(example)

In the same way you'd never see a cheat cartridge licences by Sony for the PS1 or another console, it's because they give an unfair advantage.

The reason that to me it's an even bigger problem now, is that with online play you're effecting other people.

but my point is that its not really much of a cheat its just a peripheral to allow you to play the game ... ahh forget it i can see your point of view and understand what you guys are crying about, and a few years back when i took gaming a little more seriously i would have agreed with you. But now I just don't take it as serious and gaming for me is about having fun, and if said peripheral makes it fun whats the worry.

What you seem to overlook is the fact that it'll ruin the fun for many others, there's the worry. Mouse and keyboard is far more accurate and responsive than a pad, you will have that massive advantage and others won't therefore you will be ruining any game you play with them.

I'm not crying btw, just pointing out that you are cheating. You may as well be saying 'well someone made OGC, and it increases my enjoyment of counterstrike, therefore i will use it'

As Streeteh said, I don't doubt that using a M+K would make it more enjoyable for some people, however if it possibly degrades the fun for anyone else that that person plays against (by offering an advantage), why should it be allowed?

I dont over look that at all, and again i can understand where you are coming from but i hardily think a few people playing with a mouse any keyboard because they are pap with a pad will really effect the player base that much. Sure if its a global thing and millions of players started using it might become a little more annoying ... but remember on the flip side there is nothing stopping you from using the device either?
