Xbox 360 platinum or Xbox 360 elite

See. Told you.

hdmi cables are not worth spending money on. you only buy the more expensive cables if you are running lengths of 10 meters or so otherwise, it makes no difference at all.

saying "see, i told you so". doesnt make you right. it just means you knew people would be along to tell you otherwise.

There is absolutely no difference between a £5 HDMI cable and a £100 one.

I was very close on making that mistake a while back also.

See. Told you.

If you spout rubbish, people will come along to correct you. I don't think there is anything "prophetic" in anticipating this.

A better answer would have been "I "work" in the Games industry, so I must know what I'm talking about" :D

Just out of curiousity what did you pay for your current HDMI cable and what other cables have you had a chance to compare it to? It is possible you have seen a different result based on your own tests, but as a general rule there is no difference over short distances.

My mate went for the expensive option and swears by it and won't try another cable to compare (People become proud when they have spent over the odds on something). Each to his own though, you can't educate everyone.

your Premium HDMI is it noisy even without disc in?

Nah, it's very quiet without a disc in the drive (in the dashboard).

mine Premium HDMI is too noisy and sometime it make high pitch noise. =\

It makes a bit of a racket when the disc spins up though, and the unit as a whole is far noisier than my 2900XT in my PC.

I don't notice it when gaming though, it's noisy but far from intrusive.

As far as anyone remotely normal is concerned there is no difference between a £5 and a £500 HDMI cable.

I think we have to bear in mind that some people are slightly crazy about some things when technology arrives. People will spend £1500 on SLI graphics with a 1% improvement over a £300 graphics card. Sound nuts spend £200+ on the *power cables* for their equipment because they think a more reliable power supply will help their sound quality. Some people are bonkers.

The only thing to watch out for on cheap HDMI cables is some of them are constructed so badly, they cannot actually pass a 1080p signal due to the materials/construction.

The beauty about digital signals means that spotting this is usually damn obvious, you will get either no signal whatsoever, or possibly 'sparklies' (Lots of the same coloured pixels illuminating on a dark background)..

Then I suppose there is shielding and noise immunity..

The bottom line is, if an 85p one from sainsburys works with no obvious side effects, then it's good enough!

so for the extra money from the premium to elite you are paying for 120gb hd and HDMI cable??

is it really worth it??

i mean i saw a deal today Elite + Forza 2 + Halo 3 and extra wireless control for £360

There are some really nice Prem bundles around at the minute, really wouldn't go for the elite unless you like the colour in particular.

are they likely to be on high demand over christmas. as i might end up changing it over xmas lol depending weather i need the extra storage

I have a range of HDMI Cables, from freebies to £15-20 cables. The cheap ones i bought (about £5), are a bit ropey and need to be moved about in the slot and can go off if the appliance moves, while the dearer ones are better constructed.

They give identical pictures though, but i guess where you pay extra for is the actual construction of the cable, being a bit more robust, i do move around my stuff a lot though.

As someone as already said a digital signal is either off or on, there are no in betweens like analogue. Don't get sucked in by companies like Monster etc. You have to remember companies like this made a living selling expensive quality cables in the days of analogue when an expensive cable made a difference. Now there is no difference so no need.

I ordered the premium console last night. Got the v.2 one with HDMI on definately also comes with PGR4 and Halo3 All for 250 so I'm happy. Just need to order another controller and some more games.

Anyone got a "must buy" list for games? I'v been looking at the following:

Ninety Nine Nights, Halo Triple Pack, Naruto: Rise of the Ninja (in 9 days), Gears of War.

:)

Ninety Nine Nights was a bit of a let down (pretty average review scores).

What sort of genres do you prefer?

For FPS the daddies are Bioshock, The Darkness, COD2, GRAW, R6V with GRAW2, Prey and COD3 pretty close behind.

For Racing, if you want more arcade fun Burnout: Revenge is immense, else get Forza 2 for realistic. (PGR4 is my favourite racing game and you have it already). Also Test Drive Unlimited is very good.

My personal other genre favourites are Dead Rising (my personal favourite 360 title), Hitman: Bloodmoney, Kameo, Condemned, Blue Dragon (jrpg), Gears of War, Crackdown, Viva Pinata and Amped 3 (Just plain fun).

Though as someone who's currently really into Two Worlds (loving it) my views may not actually count.

I like an awful lot of different games but leaning more towards to RPG side of things with FF and Star Ocean on my PS2 etc. Whats your opinion on Two Worlds mate? :)

Lol, right...

It's reviews make it the worst game on the 360. Games (tm) gave it a 2/10 and a lot of people have tried it and hated it.

That being said, I picked it up 2nd hand (one of those too many pints buys) as I love a good rpg and .. love it. It's very much of the Oblivion mold though 3rd person (which I prefer). The graphics are almost as good, the game world is slightly larger and combat/loot plays a little bit like diablo. The dialogue is a little twee but overall it's acted and written well enough. There's a patch that should hit any time now that's supposed to fix a few niggling issues and improve framerates though I've not really had any problems so far. It's also quite unforgiving. When you start at level 1 with no decent equipment and run into a bear it will one hit kill you.

I can't really recommend it as it's had such universal criticism, all I can tell you is I really like it. Though as an old time rpger who's played isometric rpgs(Ultima IV) I'm maybe less hard on it than I should be.

If you like japanese rpg I will recommend Blue Dragon which is enjoyable and you can pick it up for £25 new. Eternal Sonata (my next buy) is supposed to be even better and Enchanted Arms was better than expected (a 6/10 title).
