I earlier in the thread repoted my 360 as fully working since release. Now I have a small problem with the disc tray not closing without physically pushing is shut. Does this count towards the dodgy ones?

Sticking to the wording of the options in the poll, no, you would be somewhere in between ;)

(Yes, its not working as it should so its faulty)

It works fine other than the tray issue. Just called HMV where I bought it and they are gonna swap it for me but let me keep the HDD, so as to not lose the saves. Jolly nice of them, even though they first tried to fob me off to M$, lol.

Edit: I think I may have fixed it. I stuck a screw driver in it and lifted the tray up and it, for now, closes properly. When I realised the enormity of the task in disconnecting and boxing everything up, then lugging it all down town, the screwdriver had to come out.

So for now, put me on the faulty console subs bench. :D

One of my workmates just told me about his trouble with PGR artifacts. He's tried multiple discs and it fails on him with no red lights. It was his Microsoft support that troubled me.

After all the good help people on here have had he got....

"we will ring you back later, we are busy"

To never get called back.

"ring back after 9pm"

"when pgr loads and the screen is black, press and hold A, that should sort it out"

After 3 days he's finally got them to take the system back, but they want him to box up the 360 and HDD, not in the original box and they will send him a label. he then has to post it via FEDEX.

I thought they sent the boxes and did the pick up via DHL??

Nah they stopped that to save on Shipping Costs i was told......You now box it yourself and it was DHL the first time i sent my 360 back and then again to save money, they used UPS on my second 360 :o

I'm on my third one in 3 weeks.

The first one wouldn't power up properly. The first time I pressed the button (console or remote), the lights came on, but the disk didn't spin up, and there was no display. If I switched it off and back on, it'd work perfectly.

The secons one would power up OK, but, after playing the first game of PGR3 and pressing "continue", the disk would spin down, and I'd get a "disk unreadable" error. A reboot would fix it. It only ever did this the first time it was used from cold.

The third one is working fine.

When I took the second one back to Argos, the manager commented that the return rate for 360s has increased dramatically recently.

I find that figure hard to believe, as it can't be verified independently and doesn't come close to tallying with public reliability polls.

Public polls dont mean nothing how many of the "public" that vote or leave comments in regards to faulty 360s have never even had one or played one but just want to diss microsoft at any chance?

And as stated before people with no problems dont get the same publicity

I am using my 360 that i got on day release its used almost every day and have had no problems whatsoever.

Oh by the way dirty dog do u work for sony? :D

What about the poll on the reviewer site where its 360 owners with gamertags voting how many 360's they have. Surely thats a good indication.

Since the day Ive had my 360 ive been waiting for it to go belly up. It didnt dissapoint me :D Next year is when you hear the whining when they go belly up out of warranty.

Mine keeps freezing when playing any game, usually after less than one hour of playing. Im gonna wait for the weather to cool down a bit before getting it replaced, but tbh overheating seems unlikely to be the problem. Will vote accordingly soon.
Wow, it doesn't even last through a single match on Fight Night now. It was only on for 10 mins then froze :(

Place: Cambridge Dixons
Manufacturer Date:Feb, 2006
Date of Fault: 17th July, 2006
Fault: hard lockups, sometimes with chequered screen

Yeah I get that chequered screen, oh well they are picking up monday so thats not too bad. I know I wont get a brand new one back, my luck works like that. But then again I doubt it will be my last exchange in the next 3 years either.

Just arranged to RMA mine. I'm getting the PGR3 artifacts after about 1 lap and its also far nosier and hotter than other 360's I've seen.
The actual process was quite simple, the tech support guy agreed after doing the maintenance proceedure that it is borked. he said it was "probably the graphics chipset overheating".
Anyway, got an email an hour later and printed off the UPS label.

Manufacture date 2006-03-16
Freebie from CPW with phone contract (which my company pay the bulk of) ;)

Sorry, old thread bump. Mine packed up the other day and I've just sent it back  I hear a lot of people are talking about class action lawsuits in the US now as they have to pay if it goes after their 90 day warranty..

Fault: hard lockup, followed by red ring of death (3 lights), and no screen output.

Ive had mine since Chrimbo (I say mine, its actually my lads!), Are the recently manufactured ones any better?

Even allowing for the ability of negative news spreading faster than positive news the failure rate sounds absolutely sky high? (sob)

I got mine with my mobile phone deal, how would i get on if i needed to RMA it? (I sent a form back to MS to say i didnt want my 3 year deal, but thought that same form registered my 12 month warranty?, does it?)

Absolutely awesome machine though.

Extremely pointless for the yanks as they now get a year too.

I was right in my post ^^^ 4 above. I did have to send it back again :D

I need to send my replacement back again. It's a shame they give out refurbished models as that increases your chances of getting a duff unit immensely.

I was thinking of buying a xbox 360 but from the sound of it, seems a bit naff. 21% failure its pretty terrible if you ask me. Oh well guess ill have to look into other consoles (already got meself an import ps3, not much games out atm for that). Though walls of jericho (or something by clive barker) and gears of war looked great.

I know youll think this is a waste but, If mine fails ill just buy another (plus send the faulty one back)- thus not worrying about delays in returns etc.

Shouldnt have to but.........
