Hi folks not currently connected to Xbox live yet and won't be for a few weeks. Now I know there are updates available. Is it possible too buy updates on cd from the Microsoft website or anywhere?

not that im aware of mate, although the patches are nice ( speed up the dash etc ) they are not essential, wont spoil your gaming in the slightest for a few weeks till you get it on live.

I don't think so, though to be honest most of the updates only really improved the marketplace so won't affect you too much. I heard the DVD player was improved and there were slight adjustments to the music player, though nothing to get excited about.

I have been waiting for my broadband to be installed but could take upto two weeks and I am getting impatient to play Hitman. (only got a vga cable and need to enable 60hz)

So I have just spent the last 5mins googling (as I know you can get the updates from the auction site) and finally found this on xbox.com:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm#download

This is the june update and I am currently dl-ing it now and it will take another hour for it's 5mb :(

Are there regional updates as this one I am guessing is the US update?

Thats just the BC update though isnt it, not the 'big' system one?

It could well be :(

Obviously I have never been on live but do you get the option to just update the BC and not the 'big system' one?

I can't see a reason why they would only give you part of the update but we will see, my 33k modem is munching this file down quickly ... only 15 mins left :O

If you connect to Live you HAVE to update the system IIRC.

You get prompted for the BC updates when you try to run an Xbox 1 game.

Used to have ISDN and since getting rid of that I couldn't be bothered to get a 56k modem for the PC. Am currently networked to the laptop and it's built in 56k modem isn't very good, also having a 15 metre telephone extension cable doesn't help so the laptop only connects at 33k.

It is the full update as I can now play xbox games via VGA. Also if you read the instructions from the link I gave under installation by CD it states that it will update the systems operating system.

Thing is I still can't play Hitman but I thought the latest update included PAL60 support for VGA or was I reading things?

Edit: After looking in my display settings it does say that it is now PAL-60 (pulls hair out)

You will still need to change it using a 'normal' video connection. (e.g. scart, composite etc.)

Do you think I still need another cable even though the 360 states pal60?

I have just updated the Xbox 360 so now I can run the original Xbox games, however it never gave me the option too update the system as well, did it give you the option? It never rebooted either. I just pressed continue option and it took me back to the dashboard. I am presuming from this that my system must be up to date.

When I first got my 360 I was sure I set it to Pal 60 but as it was such a long time ago I thought I hadn't when I got Hitman.

Thing is I have played Oblivion, GRAW and DOA 4 in the past so the machine is definately set to PAL 60.

After reading around it's Hitman that's the problem. You need to connect your 360 to a PAL 60 TV via component or composite at least once to get the game started. After that you can go back to VGA.

Seems silly but there you are :(

If you pressed continue twice and the 360 reset itself then you probably did it without noticing.

Check under system, if you have Xbox live vision there and under system\display you have startup (so you can choose to boot dashboard or start a game) then you must have updated the 360.

Also go to system\system info and my dashboard version is 2.0.2858.0

I'd say you are updated as long as you didn't press cancel instead of continue.

:)

My dashboard version is 2.0.2058.0 and I have none of that that you mentioned in your previous post. It's just not giving me the option too update the system so presumably the update I d/loaded only had the update to allow original Xbox games. :(
