Xbox's are for Children. I had one 5 years ago, no I admit they're Ok, I just prefer the media centre element of the PS3 and Blu RAY. Free online gaming is just a bonus and with 2 kids I won't get to touch it that often I would imagine!
 
If it was going to be my main gaming platform then xbox as it's online service is slightly better with regards to chatting with friends and such. As my main gaming machine is my PC I have a PS3 because I like the exclusives better and for the most part just play single-player games. Having said that, my PS3 has been unplugged for about a month and was under my bed for 2 months before that; it really doesn't see much use.
 
I have both. I only play the ps3 and the mrs and the little one only play the 360.

There both just as good as each other for games. The PS3 is the superior one when it comes to media, with out a doubt!

I personally prefer the PS3. However the new silent 360 slim has made me enjoy it a lot recently.

Here are the main things I prefer about the PS3.

If you are owning mutiple consoles of the same kind in the same household, the PS3 easily allows you to do this. You can easily log in and out and play your digital downloads between the different logins.

Bluray player, even though I have stand alones, I like this feature.

Controller is better for beat 'em ups.

No annual fee.

Nicer interface. / photo viewer / music player / overall media center.

Overall value for money, when you take the entire package into consideration.


What I prefer about the 360....

The controller is better for racers and FPS's

More choice on XBOX live, than Playstation Network

Probably better exclusives.

I don't have any online friends, I can't be bothered with any online chat with anyone, so that isn't taken into consideration, but they say the 360 is better for all of that.
 
My opinion...

I rarely buy games for the PS3 for two reasons, 1, the controller and 2, none of my friends have a PS3.

It's a brilliant media machine though so it's down in my lounge and used every day.

My 360's are upstairs and I game on them most days.
