Hi all,

Got a Premium 360 and Microsoft Wifi adaptor at the weekend. Not having an awful lot of luck with it. It flashes on and off as connected, not connected, connected, not connected etc etc. When it is connected - for, say, 1-2 seconds at a time, the signal strength is green. Then it disconnects for 2 seconds. Then reconnects for 2 seconds, etc etc.

Any ideas? It is literally RIGHT beside a PC (Turned off atm) which gets a wireless signal without issue.

Are you running any sort of security on the wireless network? specifically WPA2. Despite saying it supports WPA2, the microsoft adaptor doesn't or at least micrsoft haven't enabled it, and the only way I got it to work with my draytek router was to force the router to use WPA only. Otherwise it just kept connecting then disconnecting when the WPA2 authorisation failed.

Well I had worse issues that this with a draytek on friday and in the end gave up. Wireless adaptor worked 1st time on my netgear with WPA but not on a draytek with WPA. I think certain wireless routers just don't work with MS adaptor and unless you can get a fireware update or change there might not be much you can do about it.

Fox have you had chance to try it on any other router? I can only speak highly of the MS device you see as its never once cut out on mine or the few friends who have one to.

No walls etc between you and the router as well? Even just a couple of feet can throw the whole thing out sometimes.

I have now moved the 360. It is directly beside my main PC, which I am using right now to type this. It is within line of sight of the router. The router is 8 metres from the PC.

It still doesn't work. It picks up the network, says its connected with good signal strength, then disconnects. Then it reconnects. Then it disconnects. It does this over and over again, staying either connected or disconnected for about 2 seconds.

This is utterly ridiculous. At £60 for a pathetic USB wifi thing it could at least have the decency to ACTUALLY WORK.

Have you tried changing wireless modes on your Router, e.g. make it 802.11b only and see if it can hold a connection?? I assume it's a 802.11 b/g capable router??

I've had no end of problems with all sorts of Wireless clients when mixing types..

Have you tried flashing your router? Most wireless issues I've had in the past have been solved by flashing the router/access point with newer firmware.

I also have a dlink router and the 360 wireless adapter worked first time out of the blister pack

maybe its just the adpater thats goosed?

Most people dont have any problems at all with the 360 Wifi adapter, which does tend to suggest that the problem is at the routers end. As has been suggested it would be worth updating the routers firmware if there is a newer version available. If not, try borrowing another router if you can and try that.

Have you tried the connection with security turned off completely (if thats an option).

Although you have the adapter, is it out of the question to have it hardwired considering that it is so close? Always going to be a more reliable connection.

Reading his posts, I think his PC that is next to his 360 has a wireless LAN connection, I Assume his router is in another room...

Connect the xbox to the PC via ethernet, turn on internet connection sharing on the PC, job done, save £60.

Surely its not as simple as that?
Have you done it?

Well, its not far off. If you have the cables, a spare ethernet port on your PC and don't mind leaving your PC on when you want Live access, its a winner. I used it for ages. But after moving house, I got the WiFi adapter and love it.

Or better still, if he has a wireless router, chances are he'll have ethernet ports, simply plug Xbox into one, take wifi adapter back and bobs your uncle

If I got a 360 (which I may) I'd have to run a 10 metre cable up to my room!
But to be honest, I'd rather spend £7 than £60.
