xbox dashboard update.

Aye, I know more people with 360s who don't have a HD TV than those that do.

Remember, we are on a techy forum so we are bound to be more in touch with HD stuff than the average 360 owner.

True, but being 'in touch' with HD stuff doesn't equate to being able to afford it. I know all the advantages of HD and would love to have one, but with 2 kids, a mortgage, car etc...

You can add to that wishlist an iPhone, SatNav, HD player (when I have the HD TV of course) and innumerable other things ;)

Now this is damn annoying. The dashboard update has reset my 360 to PAL50... Just tried an arcade game that needs PAL60 so have to go dig out the old lead, faff about and then reconnect via HDMI.

Idiots.

Does anyone remember the web address of where you can stop other people seeing your friends list?

I find it an invasion into both my and there privacy!

Ah crap, I guess I'll have to do the same :(

I must be doing something wrong, as I've updated but it still won't play any .avi files - I just get the cannot play message. I have the latest Vista codec pack installed.

Have I completely misunderstood the update, or should this do what Transcode360 previously did for me? Because it doesn't seem to.

you cant play them form media center, you have to do it from the blade on the dashboard.

I don't want to convert nor transcode. I also do not like installing "codec packs" and what not. I just use VLC and everything works perfectly, be it XViD with 5.1 or 1080p mkv with 5.1 and subs.

Will stick to that TBH.

VLC gives nasty IQ and sound quality!

Do you have to set the 50/60 thing in the game? i thought there was an option in the Xbox 360 setup blade. Or am I a million miles away from the problem :D

Well, I was connected via HDMI and there wasn't a setting. (I'm sure they fixed this in a previous update). MS are in for some calls tonight if it really is resetting everyones HD input to PAL50 and hiding the option to set it from the Systems blade unless you plug in the SD cable.

I tried that but it fails to connect to my PC when I select it and when I run the connection test from settings that fails to - but it works using Media Center. Any ideas? Do I need to install anything extra on the PC to run videos from the Video blade?

Looks perfect for me, sound is fantastic too. WMV/MOV looks cack in VLC I must say but MKV/DIVX et al are absolutely fine.

Sound is normalised so you lose the dynamic range by default.

What have you compared it that displays raw video to make this sweeping statement? (I am not sure how serious you are due to the exclamation mark).

rp2000

Even WMP with a decent codec pack looks better.
