xbox dashboard update.

Sounds like I will still be keeping the LCD TV connected to the PC for now.

Why? If you have a (presumably) HDTV, you would be wanting to watch HD movies/tv shows? If so, the H264 support is excellent (and improved further with this update).

They still haven't removed the played but not purchased Arcade games from the played games list

I'm sure they said that was in this update.

It's a nice update, but not sure I like the sideways scrolling thing. Seems harder to use almost... less info on screen at a time.

They have and they haven't I think it's now an option to remove unbrought arcade games.........but only ones downloaded and played since the update so you still can't remove the old ones :(

Why only new ones i've no idea but I guess there must have been some reason.

Wondered if it might be something like that. :( It's going to annoy me even more now that I can remove some but not others...

how do you play h264 files? All of mine are in the .mkv container and need to be transcoded.

In what format are h.264 files supported?

I don't want to convert nor transcode. I also do not like installing "codec packs" and what not. I just use VLC and everything works perfectly, be it XViD with 5.1 or 1080p mkv with 5.1 and subs.

Will stick to that TBH.

Re-encoding isn't the answer though as you are just taking one lossy format and re-encoding to another lossy format therefore losign quality. Same for transcoding. So then what's the point in watching hd files?

from what you said I just thought I'd missed somethign obvious.

There was no loss of quality though, not visible from several feet away anyway.
