All over the world...
Having had my xbox 360 since late december i havent really bothered to checkout xbox live even though a few people here have said try it and now i have my bro in Canada whos saying the same thing.

Granted i dont know much about xbox live other than you can download demos etc??. So can someone tell me about xbox live??, what options do you have and other than online gaming is it worth getting xbox live. Personally doesnt bother me either way but im trying to figure out if its worth paying for etc.
By the way can someone explain to me the differences in gold membership and silver membership. What are the monthly rates for them etc etc.

TIA:)

silver membership is free - allows demo downloads and access to market place
gold membership there is a fee - allows play against other GOLD users on xbox live

its worth it, although i dont seem to use it as much

Currently you have a free silver membership which allows you to download demo games from the arcade and market place, Arcade games are mostly in similar to a lot of flash games you get on the web, but they are fun and addictive, you can play a demo of most of them for free and pay a one off fee to completly unlock them.

the Marketplace allows you to download demos of recent game and film releases. This imo is great as it allows you to try before you buy, without having to get a magazine or anything.

The Gold Memebership allows you to further play against other players online in many of the 360 games.

Its worth it for the online gaming alone, the other stuff is just nice to have

its usually about £40 p/a for the gold membership thats less than £1 per week and trust me as soon as you start playing your favorite games with/against your mates you will wonder why you did not start this sooner.

I have recomeneded this to a lot of people it is so utterly simple to play people.

You have a firends list, this will notify you of who is online and who is offline, you can then tell what games they are playing from this list. If you want to play with them all you need to do is put in the correct game and click on your friend. you can then join them or invite them to your game.

It is a very simple and effective way of building a community. If you play someone in a game and you get along with them then you can invite them to your friends list, if you find they have been obnoxious then you can leave them feedback (it anonamous).

I can not recomend it enough, you recived a demo live subscription with your 360 I seriously recommend you try it out and add some of us to your friends list.

Live is what makes the 360 so good.

Cheers Krono for that :). With the marketplace i take it that most if not all the content is free on there??. £40 p/a seems a pretty good price mind you and the online gaming is something thats always interested in me...kinda gets boring playing against the computer all the time lol. I guess it will allow me to play with my bro in Canada as well so its a win win situation.

I didnt know you get a free live sub with the 360...is it a free month of gold or what?? and after that month is up do you have to sign up again or does it do it automatically like some places that do a re-curring charge etc.

I just signed up for the 1 month trial, the system did not ask me to input any form of payment method so I'm assuming you don't have to commit to anything matey

Ta mate, ill have a look into this free sub for a month thingy...see if it appeals to me.

As a guy here at work keeps saying to the few lads that aren't on Live. Get online, you're missing out on THE 4TH DIMENSION OF GAMING!!!!

I just think it's rather good :p

An Xbox360 without Xbox Live is like having a broken pencil.

That sold it to you!

Hehe i can live with a broken pencil, its why i have a leatherman tool for...sharpening broken pencils :p:D.

But seriously soon as i get my damn lcd tv, they just rung to tell me they are out of stock :(....ill be hooking it up to the xbox360 for sure. Im kinda getting fed up of waiting for it now....fingers crossed i get the lcd by friday latest.

Why do you need to wait for the LCD to get onto live? Do it now! :p

LOL ummm cos i cant be bothered to run a 20m cat5 cable from my room upstairs to my living room...thats why:p. Tried connecting wirelessly but it wont connect to my wireless gateway and i really cant be arsed to go and buy a router which is wired/wireless.

So buying the lcd tv allows me to take the xbox360 upstairs into my room where i can connect it to xbox live without running a long cable....also ill have the lcd tv in my room as well. Plus according to my mum it will keep me indoors rather than me being out late playing on my mates ps2:p.

Can I just ask about the games on Marketplace?

Say, for example, I downloaded the full version of Geometry Wars. Does this purchase get associated with your Gamertag so that - if in the future your Xbox 360 console went **** up - you can re-download it at no charge?

You can play them with any profile on the 360 too :)

xbox live is great, everyone on same level playing ground, £40 a year is nothing, just hope Sony take note cos i've allready seen prices for subscriptions to certain game companys servers using the Sony system with $25 a month (yes a month) to pay if you plan to play them online being suggested
