**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

There is much more to the Xbox One cloud than just the ability to host your multiplayer servers. It offers proper distributed computing.

Great technical article here which explains in much more detail than I could

Article title begins "in theory" :)

Perhaps I am mis-explaining. You keep telling me what Microsoft could do with the cloud and telling me what the cloud means. I know what cloud computing/distributed computing and other things are. I know what they could do, I am questioning what they have actually announced they will do!

I mean their marketing seems to be working if people are randomly shouting "Xbox", "Cloud", "revolution" but aren't able to succinctly explain what it means in game!

Anyway, this is off topic. Lets agree to disagree (or at least agree that we don't understand the other's point!)

Ask yourself not what the cloud can do, but what the games can do.

Its like the API for the iphone devices. Apple creates the tool, puts it in the wild and lets the app developers think up really cool and interesting things to do with it. The cloud is at that stage at the minute, its there for developers to use, now its just a question of what the games devs will do with it.

The biggest problem with talking about what the cloud ACTUALLY does, is there aren't many games for Xbox One yet. So the usage of it is in its very early days. Given more time, and more games on XB1, then we'll see what it does as opposed to "could" do.

The magical cloud pixies are used for creating AI drivers in Forza I think? Driveatar or whatever they called it. I'm also sure some other game is using it for remote processing rather than just hosting dedicated servers though it's late and I can't remember which.

Here's a link where Respawn discuss it. Apologies if posted already, it's late and I'm going to bed.

Im having deja vu, replace Cloud with Kinect and its like 3 years ago :p. Im sure theyll do far more with the cloud, it has the potential to make the XO the last console youll ever buy. Its clever tech, just not one of those things that easily translate into a sellable benefit...

XBox one is only going to scratch the surface of Cloud computing. Cloud based computing is going to change the way we live forever.

Tbh I hate the thought of it all.

That's quite a small market then :D.

I think comparing like for like (as you have) is reliant on a big IF as I see it.

Oh no doubt, and I know I'm greatly over-simplifying things in regards to my price comparison. I was just pointing out that depending on your views, the price difference between the two consoles is relatively insignificant :)

Alternatively, they could be lazy and aim for a standard which is a lowest common denominator :D. Time will tell. I think the multi-plat comparisons will be fascinating with regards to IQ and frame rate / resolution.

Yeah, I'm very interested in how the multi plats will look. I've said all along I think the PS4 exclusives should look better, but I think the multi plat differences will generally be rather small, certainly to start with. They may increase as developers get to grips with the power of both sets of hardware, but that's potentially years down the line.

I think it's because it's not a term a lot of people understand, at least not in the way MS envisage using it. I guess like a lot of things, time will tell whether it's a wonderful tool, or something that's sadly under-utilised.

I know it's more expensive, but my point that I made earlier in the thread is that if you're interested in Fifa, and if you're interested in motion gaming, it's actually very good value now. Assuming the PS Eye is £50, to buy the same setup on the Sony side would actually cost you £450, which is £20 more than the same setup on the Xbox side. Again, it all depends on what you're interested in, which is why I said the cost is relative :)

PS4 has built in rechargable battery packs, the xbox doesnt so they would still come out about the same (450)

I'm so confused in all this console talk, my heart was firmly set on the PS4 this time but M$ have come out swinging i'll give them that. Theres a couple of things which has caught my attention, Being a previous Xbox player for 6 years, its probably easier for me to continue with them + i love there controller (PS4's is meant to be excellent though) Giving FIFA 14 free (just eases the price gap) and these dedicated servers they keep throwing around i want to know how much a difference it makes and if there actually proper dedicated servers.. this is a big selling point as its what gamers are wanting but i just dont think for one minute the gameplay is going to be any different to the PS4 version and if it is then i would go with the Xbox for the extra £30 it would probably cost. Its either Power or connection both of which we dont actually know much about.

I guess this year the COD/FIFA players will be split 4 ways!!! 360, PS3, XB1, PS4 (probably in that order of popularity?)

It's genius, they won't be able to believe their luck. People wouldn't wait 2 or 3 weeks to play COD (there's no way they can wait about 3 weeks to start moaning about the game) SO they sell two copies!

Curse my stupidity not to be able to come up with such innocent looking money making scams!

Pre ordered my XBone from game with the COD bundle yesterday. So disappointed about the 2 weeks difference between EU and US launch for the PS4.

I noticed the COD bundle on the GAMe website is only £30 more than the actual console itself, yet bizarrely they don't list it as coming with FIFA 14.

The email I got last night said the COD bundle is not a Day One console.

Hmmm, on my pre order e-mail it says it's just the console and below that it's a day one.

Sod that then

I'll have a day one console and buy COD separately. No doubt whatever "exclusive" it has can be bought later down the line, assuming its exclusive to the bundle and not just the XB1 edition of the game.
