**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

What if the re-sale prices were controlled by MS/Publishers and not the user?

Could work with say £40 for a new digital game, £35 for a 'used' one with MS/publishers taking a percentage most probably something like 20% maybe more. So you buy a game for £40 sell it a week later and get £28 back which is similar to what you'd get at something like GAME.

Still can't see it happening though :(

You're not allowed to post CBOAT stuff in here anymore as he's always wrong apparently ;)
He was wrong pretty much across the board the last time you posted his stuff as reliable. To be honest I think pretty much anyone here could guess most of the stuff he comes out with and have a 50/50 chance of being right for some of it. As Sony and MS had previously said they will have digital sales (in fact already do have on current gen) and wanted to allow reselling of digital purchases in a marketplace I don't think anything list this time comes as any great surprise, it's pretty much a reposting of MS original announced plans. /shrug

I'm sorry but I just don't believe he's any more of an insider than you or me, he just seems to guess or redeliver stuff people have already discussed as "insider rumours" and if he gets one hit out of 3 people assume he had special information and explain the incorrect stuff as companies had changed/updated plans or he had got some of it right and misheard the rest.

I'm quite prepared to bet you 50p the console fans on OCUK could come up with just as many "insider truthfacts" and get just as many right.

Pehaps we should...

Hmm, maybe time for a OCUK "secret info" thread and wait to see how quickly it gets picked up as fact elsewhere ;)

Digital market would certainly stop M$ making more money... people desperate for cash or who dont care would just put games up super cheap, i imagine it being like FIFA UT at the 59th minute mark, scanning for cheap games.. going to purchase and bam sold.
With the exception of games made by Microsoft Studios MS really don't make any significant money on the vast majority of games, the publishers/retail/distribution etc do. A second hand digital marketplace is unlikely to have much effect beyond existing second hand trade in sales have.

It is however an important step to getting back to proper digital distribution which is inevitable, Games retailers are living on borrowed time and know it as are mail order companies which is why Amazon (for example) have opened up their digital sales in the UK recently.

Ok then Macro I accpept your challenge :)
I have a reliable source that's close to the development of the Xbox One that has confirmed to me that everyone that pre-orders the Xbox One will have a choice between a white or black console and controller although the kinect will be black for both.

That's fine if you don't believe he's an insider, but ask yourself why the mods on neogaf have confirmed that he is somebody in a position to have insider info. They are known to ban people who spread rumours without giving any proof to mods or admins.

What does "a position to have insider info" actually mean though? I've been a freelance games reviewer for years (though on a break now), and have many many contacts in the games industry, including some PR people at Microsoft. I'd guess that puts me in a position to have insider info. That wouldn't mean my rumours should be taken any more seriously than anyone elses though.

Thumbs up to you sir :)

Seriously, I don't know if he's an insider or not, he could just happen to know someone who makes the tea at a publisher, or do a Saturday job at Game. I just think his pronouncements are generally stating the obvious, reasonable guesses or combining and redelivering existing rumours. Like I say, I'm pretty sure we could come up with a list of "truthfacts" and get just as good a hit rate. Generally speaking having exclusive "insider information" driving significant amounts of traffic and publicity is a good thing for forums which make money from ad revenue?

Nail... head... :D

Actually we should have posted your prediction for 8th Nov release date for XO as a rumour from someone in a position to know and you'd be famous if it turns out right :)

:)

Microsoft are already quietly working on a XBOX One "slim" due to release provisionally in 2016 for the holiday period. There's some talk of this device featuring an upgraded GPU as a die shrink allows better heat management.

Sony are currently planning to bundle a game for release, at the moment it's looking to be an Indie title although I can't say any more at the moment due to sensitive negotiations.

Sony are panning to replicate "live" further with PlayStation Plus over the next year rolling additional "premium" features into the paid for model including access to betas. They are currently looking to include some "premium" media streaming services into the paid for model. This is being done to finance Sonys investment in a full cloud model similar to Microsofts.

I'm sure the folks here could come up with much better attempts :)

I didn't see it mentioned in the last few pages but something I thought was interesting. I got an email from Shopto saying

"Xbox one day one edition bundles are selling fast! Pre order now before they're gone."

I wonder whether it is a case of either MS manufactured more than they expected / more allocation coming to UK than first predicted or possibly there is simply less pre orders for the One than expected so there is surplus stock.

I have no idea what it really means, maybe they have to work for a developer or something?

Anyway we should probably stop discussing this in so much detail as it's slightly off topic

Let's try to keep the fake rumours out of here, otherwise I'll get confused between what's a fake rumour to ignore and what's a real rumour to ignore slightly less :p

They suggested yields are better than expected so it would make sense they have more units, in particular with the reduction of launch countries.

They might, but your last 2 predictions were over 100 real XB1 would be at the Gamescon floor and the release date was the "special" announcement the day after SONY conference. :D

On a separate note, I'm confused about the free FIFA in EU countries. I am sure it was stated all pre-orders would get it, but now some people are saying Day one editions only (which are a "different" SKU that I thought was all sold/pre-ordered out?)

I never predicted they would have over 100 Xbox Ones at Gamescom, that was just something I'd heard. You're right though, I was wrong with the release date announcement. I guess my rumour spreading hasn't started particularly well :D
