**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

Perhaps it's not as powerful as they had hoped once the O/S and Kinect have taken up their share of the hardware available. Still, we've got the cloud to give us the extra grunt for 1080p...

I still would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at Microsoft when Sony announced 1.8TF and 8GB of GDDR5, Microsoft seem to be caught completely unaware and have rushed their console out to match Sony's release date, the entire thing has just been one blunder after another so far.

I have cancelled my pre order - there is far too much confusion for hardware that is due out in just a few weeks. Its amazing how MS have made such a pigs ear of this.

Resolution is the easiest place to hide the power difference. The unwashed will see their settings say 1080p and won't know/care that the image is actually being upscaled. To me it's the best way to cover it up too.

Imagine handing someone on the street two sets of pictures. The first set has different geometry and texture quality. The second set the images are identical, except one was smaller and has been stretched to match. I bet the majority would identify the missing objects.

The Microsoft PR team have to walk a minefield each time they wake up in the morning. I've never seen a company shelter so many of their weaknesses; then just plainly walk out and BS to every extent that they can.

Back when I was working on a few cross-platform 360/PS3 games; it was around the time that Kinect was being announced and spewed to the world. There was also a document Microsoft circulated with 10 known problems with Kinect; which they were aware of and working on. I mean completely game breaking things; which most ended up quickly being found out by users after release; as none were addressed even after release.

It was awkward watching them pitch the kinect to the public; knowing the key topics they were avoiding.

:/

Right... no one at the Microsoft PR division can possibly know the resolution of the games on their platforms; give me a ****ing break. They knew **** was going to hit the fan when they put that embargo in place and planted Penello on this forum.

How can there be an embargo established to not leak these specific resolutions; yet someone like Penello is completely unaware of this hot topic? Really?

What I don't understand is Microsoft pays something like $50 million for DLC timed exclusive for COD games, why on earth wouldn't they help them get their game up to 1080P if it's at all possible.

Delayed launch perhaps? Manufacturing problems?

There were rumors of manufacturing issues originally a few months back regarding the 5 billion transistor SOC being well incredibly difficult to manufacture for obvious reasons.

Now lets say those rumors are correct, if I were a guessing man I'd say the overclocks the CPU and GPU were given in line with Cboats comments are the reason for the problems.

Its a shame, I'm hoping to get an XB1 in a couple of years but a bumpy launch may very well give this thing a tough time.

All of this is not sounding good at all.

This has answered any pre-order thoughts I have had at least.

This release is going to be.....interesting.

The whole resolution thing is just stupid because something is 720p doesn't mean anything it's how the game runs that matters not because it has a higher resolution.

I didn't expect games for next gen consoles to be 1080p 60fps I always thought they would target 720p 60fps.

The thing people should be moaning about is the rumored game sizes I saw some reports saying 50gb+ installs which is madness

This is still the console I want but I'm glad I never preordered. I was aiming to get it around Xmas so, assuming there's no delay in launch, it'll give time for users and reviewers to have their say.

720p or 1080p it doesn't matter. Aslong as you have fun playing a game then graphics come second.

I agree, but its the other issues and rumours about OS instability that concern me.

Ssh don't be so sensible. It's far better to jump on the lets all kick Microsoft bandwagon.

It's not about kicking them more, but the things that are being said make me feel really cautious. I want to buy an XO, but there is a real doubt in my mind as to it now.

Not because of the 720p thing, but the more to come rumours.

I'm taking some if these rumours with a massive pinch of salt. I can accept the tools not being mature enough to ensure 1080p games etc. but OS instability at this late stage seems unlikely.

I agree, this is why I would now rather wait at this stage for some genuine user feedback and impartial reviews.

That said I don't go with this line "720/1080 doesn't matter"

Of course it matters, as an indication of the overall ability of the console and otherwise why not carry on playing fun games at 420. Why bother with progress on any form of graphics if you can have just as much fun with lower res.

This forum has always been pro xbox, I'm an xbox only user myself this gen. I feel people are now becoming apologists for MS at this stage looking like they are going to become beaten by the PS4's power. When the games came out on both consoles this gen and the xbox had a better port this forum was more than happy to spout and sing the praises of the superior port. Detailing background in such games as Ghostbusters but now it's 720/1080 apparently this no long matters because when shooting you no longer take notice of backgrounds :D
