**XBOX ONE** Official Thread

To be honest a lot of phones now have a tethering or portable hotspot options.

My note 2 can become a WIFI hotspot. Not fancying popping around my friends on a daily basis to keep his XboxONE running though :D (If he ever got one)

I dread to think what the state of XB Live and PSN will be like on release day as everyone hits the servers for updates *shudder*. I think PS4 update is due to be around 300mb. I've not seen a size for XO but read they expected it would take 15-20mins for the average (whatever that is) internet connection. :(

You can download the PS4 update on USB before release and use that to update, maybe you can do the same on XB1?
I do think certain places may download the update to a disk and start charging people for it  Especially for the XB1 where you can do nothing without an internet connection and kinect fitted.

Probably best to double check but Penello said you cant do anything without the the update and the leaked console information seems to back that up (basically takes you to a screen to connect to internet when you boot up IIRC)
Certainly seems that way, I'm sure it only effects a very few people but still seems odd there isn't at least offline game playing capability. Hopefully there will be a plan "B" for the people it effects though.

Waiting to see a second market on Ebay for "pre updated XO" spring up at a premium... Actually BRB, gotta go buy some stuff ;)

ok guys i have decided to get the XBOXONE aswell ;)
already got the gamerpack ps4 killzone secured for day one :D

now i need to know where`s the best place to get xboxone + forza and zombies game ? cheapest place if possible ??? or are the prices all the same with xboxone lol

And the train wreck continues.

The swami guy who got his account banned can't even play ghosts offline he claims, he even says he can't access x1 settings, he's already downloaded the day 1 patch too.

We still have two more weeks before launch - the console is in a pre-release state. We are doing regular updates - I personally took one a few minutes before he posted. His build is now old. This is why we were saying we didn't want people on early - it's not done yet.

This behavior is only because we are in pre-release. When we launch, console will work exactly as you expect today on 360.

For sure this has nothing to do with requiring a connection. There is no "DRM removal" in the Day One update because none of the consoles were ever built with that stuff in it.

This also has nothing to do with COD. The Day One update just brings the SW up to date with the latest versions vs. what's on the box. But there is no 24 check in, that's for sure.

I don'tsee a train wreck just someone who is having issues with something he shouldn't have got 2 Weeks early, not his fault, and Microsoft saying its not in release state yet but will be by 22nd.

Now f these issues happen on day one then thats another story.

Here is a quick summary of the thread on gaf
As best I can summarize ->

● Guy was playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on his early Xbox one. His access to XBL gets temporarily banned because they are still working on things for launch. He can still play offline.

● A day later, he now says he can no longer play the game offline. Everyone wonders why.

● PS4 version has "Offline Enabled" on the back, whereas Xbox One case did not, which confused things further. Ultimately however this seems to amount to nothing, since other games are also missing critical info on the back (example: Knack does not indicate it has remote play).

● Someone says what if the DRM was removed at the OS level, yet can still be done on a software-by-software basis? crazy buttocks implies agreement. People react, but since technically what buttocks was implying is not really any different from what PS4 does, it didn't tell us much.

● Penello comes back and says he's still looking for info, but it's definitely not DRM (the patch does not remove DRM, but puts a finalized OS in place) and it's definitely not related to Call of Duty, since the patch just updates the game itself.

● Rhindle suggests that actually the OS is frequently receiving daily updates in the lead up to launch, and that if the system does not get those updates, it will cease to function. Therefore, since this guy cannot currently log in to get those updates, he cannot play.

● Penello agrees with this guess of Rhindle's and all-but confirms it is the case.

What I don't get is the second bullet point, where he can't play offline a day later, his live is banned he can't download any patches....how did the x1 change its state?

Console still connected to his network? im sure my 360 could detect software updates even when not signed in.

Just because it's banned, doesn't mean it can't still communicate to the MS servers. How do you think they would unban it? TBH if the platform is still being finalised, it's hardly surprising they don't want rogue consoles going on it.

There is no "train wreck".

It looks as though the console is in a safe boot mode. Have you seen the video doing the rounds?

When it boots up it goes to a black screen saying your console is banned, and you cannot get off the screen.

You can't draw any conclusions before the 22nd as the software is in beta

However....one things for sure. The xbox one launch / marketing campaign has been a total disaster from the start

Still buying one though

Surely normal people (ie not idiots or trolls) couldn't make any assumptions about what the Xbox One is going to be like from a guy the got the console 2 weeks early and is now locked out....what a surprise, last I heard the release date was the 22nd.

Train wreck.....what a ridiculous statement

And the train wreck continues.

I don't think anyone should be particularly surprised and there's certainly no train wreck beyond the usual internet dramaz. XO hasn't yet been released so there's no production XBox Live services available for end users yet as it's still in internal test mode. The OS on the XO was an unfinished old version as MS had openly said is the case and the day one update is not yet at final version. It's not really a drama, the XO shouldn't have been sent out and the services/OS isn't yet ready for it to work. On day of release he will have the final OS build and X Live services that everyone else has once they are switched on.

Not really a conspiracy although somewhat less of a dramatic story than t'jnternet would like :)

Part of me hopes that when the PS4 is released things don't go smoothly. Maybe then the MS haters will be quiet.

Then again the majority of PS4 owners don't deserve it.
