Thinking of getting an XBox around christmas time. My daughter (5yr old) loves the Wii and likes to mess around with the XBox in some stores.

Is the XBox a worthy buy these days? Out of the loop when it comes to consoles.

Looks like this has already turned into another one of *those* threads.

OP, my advice would be to get the 360 and get your daughter Kinect and some games to go with it, she'll absolutely love it. Especially the more kid-focused games like Kinectimals. :)

I say get the PS3 instead. Costs the same, but you get more. Plus you won't have to worry about XBOX live subs year in year out.

I have both BTW.

Oh dear....

OP makes no mention of live, for a 5 year old Live will not be needed either :)

Kinect offers much more for a 5 year old than anything on PS3....I have both BTW

They always turn into *those* threads..

I'd also say 360, PS3 is great if your gonna use the media centre part of it, otherwise they're equal, Kinect probably is better for kids though as well

No idea why you'd want to buy your 5yr old daughter an xbox when she already has a dream 5yr old daughter system, the wii...

if "you" want a console the ps3 is the obvious choice, it is now quite a distance ahead of the xbox imo. if anything the xbox is holding it back, as cross platform developers are basically restricted to the inferior 360 hardware, and peripherals...

LOL

Inferior 360 hardware? oh dear god I forgot how dumb this forum gets

that doesnt prove anything. it just proves that those games run well on the PS3. what you need is a comparison of the same game on the xbox and PS3. i think i'm right in saying that in black ops they can turn the res up slightly more on the 360 than the PS3, which points towards the xbox being better than the PS3 graphics wise (but is by no way the end of the argument.

however, for a 5 yr old girl this really doesnt matter. get her an xbox and kinect and she'll have a whale of a time. dont worry about paying for xbox live, a free silver membership will be more than enough for her (you can do everything except online multiplayer stuff with that)

as for hardware problems, i've had my elite for over 3 years now and havent had a single problem, despite moving it to the parents house and back most weekends for almost a year. no RRoD, no yellow light of death, no credit card details stolen *cough*
it was just the arcade and pro systems that had the problems, and they are no longer in production

That's a fair point. Although I suppose if you want the best version of the game, you could just invest in a killer PC.

Bayonetta is the best example of where the 360 version IS definitely superior, but I would rather much have the more robust hardware at the end of the day.

It's sad to say that even the original Xbox from 2001 is more reliable than the 360.
