I never implied that the current revisions on sale have higher failure rates than what came before. I was talking about the 360 in terms of every single piece of hardware out there with the Xbox 360 logo on it, whether it be in someone's home, still in the shop, or in the landfill !

I'm sure failure rates would drastically come down if only the 360 slim was out in the wild and if Microsoft did an free exchange deal for the older model so that people around the world would only have the slim.

The question is though, has the original quoted failure rate come down to an acceptable level like the YLOD or better still, the Wii's level ?

I happened to pickup a ps3 camera for a tenner today, it is the most impressive webcam, by FAR that i have seen, the picture clarity is astonishing and the microphone out of this world.

a tenner for this tech, oh hold on i'll completely make my wii redundant, along with all the games so that i can spend well over £200 on a xbox with kinect(which i hear is far from setting the world a light) buy a game for a 5yr old and she can dance on a different console.

crazy thread.

ps3 peripherals are the most understated and underrated pieces of equipment i have seen. this £10 super webcam does everything i'll ever need at a FAR superior level then the equivalent 360 one.... price per pound the most impressive piece of kit i have and will ever likely see, amazing. off topic, but maybe the little lass could have fun using the £10 webcam with singstar?

Depends if you're one of those people that believes a game is still exclusive if it's also released on the PC tbh. Hardware is more than fine now though you're right.

To the OP - For kids Kinect is great. If this is more a purchase for you however, do you have a gaming PC? If you do, i would advise you look at the PS3 as it has more games that aren't available on that platform.

The failure rate of new models is perfectly acceptable. There is no sign that the op is looking at buying some 5 year old xbox and no one here would seriously recommend that, so why are you trying to steer him away from an xbox on the basis of past flaws? It's fallacious.

Is the PS3 free with the £10 webcam? As you seem to be telling the OP that spending £200 on a 360 and Kinect is not worth it, but buying a PS3 and a camera is worth it?

if "you" want a console the ps3 is the obvious choice, it is now quite a distance ahead of the xbox imo. if anything the xbox is holding it back, as cross platform developers are basically restricted to the inferior 360 hardware, and peripherals...

You do know that 95% of games look and perform better on the 360 right?

You should read eurogamer's digital foundry, they compare games in incredible detail between the consoles and although the PS3 is starting to catch up the 360 still performs better in most games,

PS3 exclusives look better than most ports but only when the developers spend stupid amounts of time and money adapting to the overly complex architecture, The Cell CPU is brilliant but it just doesn't lend itself to games that well, it only really has 1 "FULL" CPU and 7 number crunching SPE's

I still have a PS3 and wouldn't get rid of it but I am hoping that Sony don't make the PS4 stupidly hard to develop for and hopefully we won't end up with terrible quality games 2-3 years into it's life because developers just can't get the hang of it
