The disc is your license, or "CD Key", so to speak.

You can download anything you like from the store. But you can only play it by purchasing a digital copy, or inserting a disc with a valid license.

Makes a lot of sense really, given all of the pieces were already in place to make this happen.

That makes sense, thanks. Clever.

So I just realised there's no optical out on the Series X which is a tad annoying (no idea how I missed that haha) as I still use my ancient Logitech Z-5500. I assume an HDMI / Optical splitter would work OK? I just guess it would need to support 4k60 - anyone else in this situation?

I'm just gonna use the optical out from my TV, as that way all of my devices connected by HDMI can have their sound output sent to my amp that way.

The thing with Xbox is, yes, they have been very open about the hardware. But is that because there is nothing to talk about regarding games? We're now six weeks away from launch and there has been nothing next-gen shown running on it apart from little clips here and there and an extra bit more on Gears 5.

Even though there was a range of games at the launch of the last consoles, none were of interest to me. I can say the same with the 360 too. But the benefits that will be seen from the enhancements for Series X, I will have something beneficial from day one. And at least it seems like MS aren't going to be shafting their customers in the way that Sony will be.

Smyths sent an apology email this afternoon offering to still secure an Xaa preorder, I actually bought it outright in the end but does anyone know if I can give my invitation to a friend instead?

I'm not worried about having nothing to play, the 360 back catalogue will keep me occupied for months! But the fact there is no Series X game demos being shown is totally weird. Thank god September is nearly over. Surely in October there has to be information overload - new games running, old games running with enhancements, etc.

It's not exclusive or on game-pass but Cyberpunk 2077 should offer fantastic visuals, hope the game lives up to the hype.

Just thinking this through, does this mean the amazing DRM stuff they announced with X1 is back? It must be for this to work? If the disc is the key, there must be a way to relinquish that key so the disc can be traded in / borrowed etc.

The X1 DRM system was brilliant, such a shame the internet overreacted and the rolled over. This must mean it’s back?

No. I think that ship has sailed a long time ago and subscriptions replace that idea for them.

Thats the big frustration, you would think with a new console you would have some big hitters on release day, but at least the hardware is spot on this time, with current gen I was gutted when a seen the CPU, this time the whole system is so balanced i can't see any weak links.....it's just the lack of games atm, gone are the days of a Mario 64 to show off your new toy

Smyth's have all access back in, randomly tried this morning and it let me get the series s

That's me set PC for when I want all the fancy stuff on, PS5 for there exclusive etc and Series S for when I wanna play Forza in lounge etc

So what should I do with the game pass I sub to now? It's just PC version only, am I right in assuming I can cancel it now and just activate the full 24 months on the all access which will grant pc,Xbox itself, pc, phone in one go.

First time using all access, just wondered if it will be as simple as putting in activation codes or will I need to convert anything over?
