Series S can't and won't have the same graphic settings as the One X because graphically, it is less powerful (4TF vs 6TF). The CPU is more powerful, so you'll get higher framerates with lower quality settings. This is what the console prioritizes. Which MS elude to in their marketing...

I thought this was meant to be a computer forum?

You can't compare the TF on the 1X to the Series S. They are different generations of GPU.

But it doesn't get the higher settings that the One X had at lower resolutions, things like higher quality reflections, textures, foliage in Forza Horizon 4 for example. Personally I'd rather it offered the same level of detail that the One X can provide at 1080p than lower graphical settings at a higher resolution.

Maybe I should have kept the One X but will see how the Series S is reviewed closer to launch. If its a bit meh then I'll get a Series X next year when it has some games :p
I'm sure if they create series specific upgrades for the X1 games they will have their own better graphical settings such as reflections, textures and foliage etc, on the series S. Absolutely no one has said there will be higher framerates with less graphical settings.

It’s down on Raw GPU power and also has less RAM too. If this makes a difference only way we will really know is when they are out and in use. Numbers on paper rarely paints the whole picture.

The Series S is about 4 times more powerful than the X1X.

People are just seeing the 4tf and that X1X game upgrades won't run and assuming the series S isn't very good. Thats far from true. It will do everything the series X does just at a lower resolution.

If it's four times more powerful it'd be able to run the One X versions ?

Not seen or heard much at all about the S !!
Again the Series S enhancements have been detailed. Its not targeting 4k. Thats why it can't do the 1X enhancements, and NOT because its not powerful enough.

Its not 4 times more powerful than a one X GPU wise the Series X is only double. I think you might be confusing it’s CPU power...

So all the One X enhanced games if to run similarly enhanced on S will need a new version with assets at 1440p ? Otherwise will just be One games upscaled or higher frame rate ?

Can't believe people are comparing x1x to series s tflops on here of all places.

We already know 5700xt rDNA1 9tflops compared to Radeon 7 GCN 14tflops in gaming. and now this is rDNA 2 we are talking about in the series S.

rDNA2 4tflops will absolutely be faster than 6tflops of GCN.

Indeed, I believe it has the grunt. However, it doesn't have the RAM. Xbox One X has 12GB and Xbox Series S has 10GB so it's likely more down to the RAM rather than anything else.

It’s almost identical, which was always the intention.

That’s due to the low amount of RAM causing issues with the 4K games that use a lot of VRAM.
Its not almost identical at all.

Also its not target 4k so its got enough RAM for what it is aiming for in terms of 1440p. Go look at the Dirt 5 footage running on the Series S.

The GPU is definitely extremely close in performance to the one x GPU.

Have a look at the digital foundry video on the topic.

I know it’s not targeting 4K, so why are you regurgitating that waffle to me?

I'm not sure where the whole thing about this started, but for consoles, as far as I can tell you can take it as a reasonable approximation of its power. If you wanted to go to a scientific level of comparing the generations of chips, then no, as we have no way of isolating CU's and matching their clock speeds, memory, etc. But stating their TF is an indicator for the performance we get in the end package. Your later statement about Series S being 4x more powerful?! If it were, it'd do 4K/120. It isn't, so it can't.

Wonder if it has enough RAM to run One X enhanced (not series x) games at 1080p though or even 1440p.

Guess we'll see when people can get their hands on one to play with but the difference between say FH4 in quality mode and performance mode is quite a lot visually so depending on the game those one x enhancements made a big difference even at 1080p.
