I don’t know perfect dark, it must have slipped past me.

I guess the game is 20 years old next month. Now I feel old...

Like most shooters, it hasn't aged brilliantly. But looking back, it was pretty phenomenal for its day, and in many areas was unsurpassed for a long time.

So what do you guys think about the production cost increases for the PS5, is the Xbox also affected?

Apparently Sony has had to jack up the retail price and now doesn't think it can match PS4 year one sales so they only producing half as many units in year 1

Bloomberg reckons the ps5 retail price is currently on track to launch at $550usd unless component prices drop significantly

The two components that are the culprits for this large price increases over previous estimates is the SSD and RAM - both have increased in price significantly since the start of corona virus

They are going to be expensive. Would be surprised if the PS5 ever sells anywhere near what the PS4 has achieved.

I seem to remember Microsoft offering a payment plan for the Xbox which would be a great idea. It would make the higher price less of an obstacle.

Most people don’t buy high end phones in cash either, so I don’t think a high price is a major problem so long as they can offer a good deal round it. Something like Apples 0% finance would be perfect!

They offer a plan with console and Xbl included it's 20/24 S/X for 24 months with an upgrade option to the new console.

I'm in two minds about buying an X just now as I'm stuck in the house currently have a Xbox s but keep looking

I bought an X at the start of the year with an external SSD and I've really been appreciating the load time difference and graphics improvement.

I did upgrade from a base XBox One though so getting HDR was a big part of the upgrade which the S already has.

I'm tempted too as have a One S which was hardly used but signed up for Gold for 2 years and did the Game Pass upgrade thing.

Really impressive bunch of games, ton of stuff to play which has cost me under £80 until mid 2022, crazy.

I'm tempted by the Series X but knowing there won't be an SX exclusive titles for about 2 years reduces it being an essential purchase.

If I can get a deal on a One X then I'd be keen but with the current situation there doesn't seem to be any good offers. Probably better to wait until closer to the launch of SX but I don't like waiting :)

I’d buy a one x for silly cheap now, then get a series x next year when there is a price drop, some good exclusives, and the always present launch hardware issues are sorted.

It looks like all first and second party games will be on the one x too for the first year (not 2), and series x game pass games will take a while to appear.

I’m not sure why anyone would buy one at launch if they already have a one x.

Good plan, although I can't find a cheap X, if you see any please let me know.

I heard Asda were chucking them out for £150 or something crazy according to some comments on Hot UK Deals but can't believe they would be so low.

I got mine with Star Wars for £160 in January.

I'd say Xbox is in an interesting place, with all first-party games being cross-platform for the first two years, and the rumoured "Series S"/"Lockhart" console. The Series X being expensive maybe doesn't matter quite as much.

Time will tell though.

Where does this 2 year number come from?

I only see the following quote from Matt Booty:
"As our content comes out over the next year, two years, all of our games, sort of like PC, will play up and down that family of devices"

Which means 1 year of non-exclusives as the Series X was a year away when that statement was made.

Yeah, you're right. Could be a very limited number of games in practice. It's not a very explicit statement really and could mean just about anything.

Non-explosives? :D

I think any exclusives that Microsoft have up their sleeves will be at least named within the first year if not at least out by the end of the first year/beginning of the second. Not saying all of them will but at least one exclusive. The other multi-platform titles will tide me over until anything else takes my fancy anyway.
