If its only 0.1%, then they could have afforded to provide a £100 voucher with the purchase to compensate the end user for having to replace their audio setup and the financial outlay would have been a pittance if the claimed 0.1% is true.

What has made this even worse is the revealing its only a meaner $2 cost to them, and little thought has been put into the consequences other than "hoping the market brings out new compatible products that are affordable". Is there really that many people who dont care about audio quality in games?

A lot of parts within any device are quite cheap, but as has been said repeatedly it adds up when you're selling 50 to 100 million of that device.

Some guy on the forum was complaining about the PS5 only having 3 usb ports due to his specific requirements, but if it had 4 I'm sure someone would say it should have 5.

The numbers didn't make sense to include it, 99.9% of people didn't use it, and you knew the Series S/X didn't have it when you bought it so I don't think MS owe you anything. PS5 doesn't have it either.

lol £100 voucher for people who need optical? can they give people £300 who need to also buy 120hz monitors ? where does it stop?

Not seen any quotes from spencer confirming it was 0.1% but he has been quoted as speaking to accessory companies before the decision was made, so not impossible a revenue share was discussed on the sales of new audio devices following the change. Similar to the revenue share with seagate on the propriety storage expansion.

You've posted several times now to tell us we're 0.1% and should just get over it, but when I asked how we're supposed to connect our headphones now, you didn't give any solution...

I guess "buy new MS licensed headphones" is the answer, then? And accept they're likely to be worse than what we've already got?

I just think its ridiculous people complaining about it after buying a system that offers no massive upgrade to most the people buying them unless you buy a new TV/monitor, so to get the benefits you need to fork out. In addition people have bought it knowing full well it has no optical out.

Maybe wait until a later iteration and hope it has is optical is so important? I haven't offered a solution as i have researched it so i believe your solution is the 'best'. Ironically, back in the day, my Xbox 360 is running HMDI to my pioneer tv but using Optical out as my Yamaha AV received doesn't pass through BTB or WTW and so is clipping 0-15 and 235-255 on RGB. So the optical out was the solution then. Now i have Arctis X9 so going from a Xbox one, to xbox one X, to series X was no change for my audio solution. I have a good 5.1 Surround system but for most games i prefer to use my 1440p/144hz monitor and X9s (with dolby atmos) where noise position is important.

I got mine on here for £90 used, that was my solution. So it was buy used MS licensed headphones, however the Arctis 7 are also a solution which are PC and PS4 targeted without MS license?

If i wanted headphones on a HDMI AV received i could just plug headphones into that i guess?

My £40 Razer set sounds fine when plugged into the controller. Even my DT990's (250 Ohm) are loud enough through an Elite 2 controller. The only thing that I find is that the sound space is pretty narrow. Although that was only ever using Stereo. My 9X now on DTS:X are incredible in comparison.

Woop, managed to blag a Series X from Very. Once you factor in 10% Cashback it worked out not a lot more than the S and was the one site that could've persuaded me to switch.

Arctis 9x sound great, probably not chin stroking level great but I'm listening mainly to explosions, gunfire and teenagers screamingly question my sexuality so for that they are perfect. They use the Xbox Wireless protocol via a USB dongle.

To be not a lot more than the S it needs 40% cashback? But still £405 for an X is decent.

I was going to say £45 off doesn't bring it down to almost Series S level as aren't they around £250-275?

Still just over £400 for a brand new console, that's a win in my book especially with both being so hard to get at even full price.

Yeah, maybe my wording wasn't great :p

If £150 more than a Series X isn't classed as much, i supposed £200 more at full price also shouldn't be classed as much more.

My mind works in odd ways!

People tend to think logarithmically.
Example: We'll go out of our way to save £5 on a £10 item, but won't even cross the road to save the same £5 on an item that costs a grand. The amount is exactly the same, but more importance is placed on saving 50% than saving 0.5%.
