I'm not following the narrative that there is a 2080 equivalent in either console personally.

That comes from the spec sheet really.

The new consoles use RDNA2 GPUs. The RX 6800 offers performance roughly equivalent to a 2080 Super. The Series X GPU is maybe 15-20% less powerful in paper (so not quite 2080 levels of performance).

It's certainly likely to be closer to 2080 performance than 1060, which suggests another explanation for the GN results (platform immaturity?).

Haha, that's the only reason I'm keeping my PC ticking over - for those type of games that are still PC exclusive.

Same here. Maybe if the "Microsoft are buying Sega" rumours turn out to be true?...

Also, they need to add broad flight stick compatibility in time for Flight Sim. Having the Thrustmaster HOTAS One alone isn't enough. Firstly, it's not a great stick. Secondly, Thrustmaster can't make them quick enough even now.

I think DirectStorage is the key to this gen which is something Windows doesn't currently have. We haven't really seen it in proper use yet on Xbox either.

How are the points collectors getting on with 10 days to go? I’m just about 2/3 the way at 6560.

done about 1200 points, I honestly dont know how people are managing to get so many.

Also its not worth buying games to do this, the monetary value of a 1000 points is not even a pound.

So as a general question with next-gen consoles, how important is HDMI 2.1 if looking for a new TV?

Most games are 1440p/120 or 4K/60. I dont think many are going to really be 4K res at 120hz. I think the key thing to get if you dont get HDMI2.1 is a TV that can do 120hz as higher frame rate is the big win.

I say all this in the context of monitors really where HDMI 2.1 is rare, to be honest theres a no brainer choice for TV and gaming which is a LG OLED eother a BX/CX or the new 2021 screens. 2.1 HDMI and low input lag.

If its a 4k tv that has either HDR or 120hz support its a must in my opinion.

OK. If I had a TV that was 4k/60 max, does the need for HDMI 2.1 almost go away as games should hit a constant 60 (my limited understanding points to VRR being the specific benefit for smoothing variations in framerate). ALLM is another good feature, but can get that on decent 2.0 TVs?

While 120hz would be great, I've survived on 30fps for most of my life until now and it's a premium price.

If your TV isn't 4k/120 then HDMI 2.1 is not even an issue. Your tv cant support 120hz so no need to worry about bandwidth or HDMI standards.

My monitor is HDMI 2.0, which is fine as it does everything except 4k/120 but its only a 27inch so I'm fine with 1440p/120hz and VRR (and low input lag)

It’s not at all. Very few games will run at 4K120, as most 120 Hz games will run at 1440p which will run on HDMI 2.0b just fine.

VRR, ALLM, and HDR also don’t need HDMI 2.1.

The CX has a big flaw with VRR that makes the feature unusable unless you want washed out blacks.

Good to get that confirmed then.
Now to find a half decent TV, always been a fan of Philips Ambilight (gimmicky) but know they aren't the greatest in terms of quality.
LG CX/BX are too pricey.
Hisense U7/U8 may be the best compromise

55"-65" I think. Anything more, I'd absolutely have to wall mount it as it would be too wide for my stand (to fit inside my speakers)

Not against doing that, but it would be a proper pain as solid brick wall etc.

Think digital foundry put it as a match with a 2080

Anyone getting the flickering on series x? It flickers to black, then back like it’s reaquiring the signal. So bloody annoying

I get this when my Series X is turning HDR on and off (or my monitor is detecting it) automatically, screen goes dark for 2-5 seconds when switching it on or off. (Using a BenQ 4K Monitor)
