XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

It's single target in that it's not a free-aim like rockets/grenades, but, it has an area of effect around your single target that can/will hit others too. It's not all that wide though, only a tile or two I think.

Actually what is suppression radius? I thought suppression was a single-target ability?

Rocket radius is obvious, suppress radius not so obvious..

It doesn't actually say, but from experience it seems to be roughly two squares in each direction from the target you fire at and one square diagonally, creating a sort of diamond area of effect.

In those situations where the enemy allows themselves to get bunched up it can be used to effectively ruin any attack potential that bunch of enemies had.

First DLC announced called Slingshot, Looks a bit naff tbh.

“In this new set of linked Council missions, gamers will meet an enigmatic Triad operative, divert an alien ship’s course, and do battle with the aliens in the skies over China. The Slingshot Content Pack includes three new maps tied to the Council missions, a new playable squad character with a unique story and voice and new character customization options.”

Those skills are different tiers, so you can have both.

Oops, my mistake. Not sure which skill I picked over suppression then. Will have to double check.

//edit - ah, it's the shredder rocket. I like things that go boom too much to pass up on that :)

LOL put it on highest difficulty...
Managed about an hour and a half before game over screen xD

In the first Xcom I remember there was things you could research/build and then make a fair amount of profit on selling.

Any tips?
I'm finding cash really tight all the time :/

You have to prioritise satellites. 1st task should be power, uplink and 3 extra satellites. Then the same again in the 2nd month.

Took me until my 3rd playthrough to get the panic levels kept down, at the beginning of the month set off a couple of satellites and build power for the uplinks to support them. Then a few days before the council report launch them in areas that have high panic.

After paying more attention to this part I now nearly have full coverage and panic levels are low across the board so I can concentrate on killing things :)

I'm new to this series and have been playing this the last few days (and failing hard) but don't think I'm doing things right so has anyone got any tips on how to play this more efficiently ?. I've read that researching armour rather than guns is a good thing to do early on and using overwatch is a must (never even knew what it was for).

Really enjoying the demo so far. Two questions:

1. Any way to make the mouse smoother?

2. Where is the cheapest place to get a Steam key? (£22 is the cheapest I have found!)

Edit: Bought :D

Really enjoying the game so far, though I got all but one of my squad killed on last mission:(

Just a few things:

Anyone else really annoyed by the camera? ....or is there a way to set it so that it doesn't reset after every go?
It is supposed to be highly tactical, and it is, but it seems to me that a lot of it is just pointless? For example, you might position your squad in cover, only for a flying thingy or something to just zoom up and get behind them and kill them all in one move.

Anyone tried any of the mods to balance things?

Who said psi abilities weren't that good. Psi panic is such a game changer. Even if your hit chance is like 20% with a gun, the psi chance can be close to 100%. Deco getting a full psi unit before doing final mission got two training from complete rookies ATM. Then once they're colonels. I'll train the final 3 up.

You basically have to ignore everything except power, satellites and interceptors.

Your squad equipment will be ****e, but the sats are just so important that everything else should be a distant 2nd place.

Haven't completed this yet. Doing the same as Glaucus and forging a crack psi-ops team, only I'm gonna ramp the difficulty up to impossible and then see how the final mission goes :)

After 30 hours though, while I have enjoyed this far more than I ever thought I would, they're a lot of issues that deter me from playing through this again. I mean, talk about hand-holding, what's with the ******* camera focusing on everything that happens?

Aliens spotted, zoom in. Car explodes, zoom in. Select run and gun ability, zoom back to soldier. It's pathetic the way the game booms me around the map every time something remotely important happens, like I'm an imbecile who needs to be continuously spoon fed because I'm too dumb to work out what's going on.

What happened to the old days where you'd end your turn and hear gunfire followed by agonizing screams, only to return too find two of your guys have been slain and quite often you had no idea where they were even shot from?

Consoles - dumbing down games for however many years it's been now.
