XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

The "I'm panicked, lets' shoot my team mates" thing bugs me to hell. That and the fact that they're all wusses, panicking just because somebody gets shot :p

Had that the other day, one guy panicked resulting in him shooting a team mate (as you do) causing them to panic and shooting another team mate causing them to panic and killing another team-mate :/

You don't know what it was like man! People were screaming and shooting and I always said Bob looked a bit like an alien anyway :p

I've played this for roughly 5 hours and can safely say I love it. It's not Xcom of old, its far too simple to be, but for what it is it does very well. I've been hankering for a good turn based strategy since the days of the PS1, I've finally got what I wanted.

Played it with keyboard and mouse and didn't find it much of an issue. I thought the game was a little short took me a couple of days to complete it. The original one took me ages to complete

Had a funny one last night: A Muton used his intimidate thing on one of my rookies causing him to panic and blow the ugly thing's head off :D

Another Iron Man Classic game lost tonight.

It's always Thin Men. They always wipe out my entire squad on those missions where you have to rescue people, and the game drops them in as reinforcements.

I'd love to know what their AIM and CRIT stats are, because I've seen them hit men in high cover hunkered down, and they just don't seem to care.

I've literally never been hit by any of the guys that are dropped into the map. Mostly my overwatched troops shoot them as they land or if that fails they always go to overwatch which means I can shoot them before they shoot me. If it is convenient I'll even camp a spot where they get dropped and take them out with the arc thrower for easy plasma weapons. Classic difficulty here as well.

Ok this is annoying me a bit now. At the end of month two, THREE of the funding nations pulled out across three continents, so I can no longer get any of the bonuses for having satellites over all the countries. All I did wrong in the entire game so far is fail to shoot down one UFO (my interceptor was blown up in trying). I have completed every mission available successfully and only lost one or two men. I was expecting maybe one country to pull out but THREE? Total bull****. I spent pretty much all my cash and resources on getting satellites up as well, and that includes selling every corpse I collected, and a bunch of other stuff, apart from one for research purposes.

I might have to get hold of a mod that makes the panic levels a bit more manageable. I like to take my time and build up my base/forces in these games, but it basically makes it impossible to have any other playstyle than "spend EVERYTHING on satellites and engineers!!1".

Anyways, /rant :)

Got to the final mission last night on normal ironman, all max level guys all research done slowly got worn down getting to the end then was finally finished off. Bit of a pain nothing can replace Jayne cobb and Rick Astley both of them had only missed 1 or 2 missions throughout thier whole careers :( . I have a backup squad with a few max level chaps if it lets me do the mission again but I doubt they will make it through to the end.

If you fail the last mission it lets you retry. I got bugged and the last doors wouldn't open for me on my Classic Ironman runthrough. So I grouped my team together and Psiwarped them to death. It restarted again with the same team.

I then went through with my assaults in ghost mode and sniped everything in the open.

Sweet i shall give it another whirl later.

That's what annoys me. Its like they've purposefully made it so you cant win.

Theirs no logic or consistency to it. Your going to lose loads of countries no matter what you cant control it, your not given the resources in an adequate way to do so.

What does it even mean anyway, whos panicking? The people. Politicians dont pay that much attention to their people. A country wouldnt just pull out of a huge global thing just like that anyway, the things they would miss out on and the loss of standing would be so great. Couldn't you bribe them or explain to them you have limited resources and cant help everyone all the time(but you cant because the whole thing is so gamey).
