Shame really, I used to scope the old OCUK site on a daily basis, not any more. I still bought most of my last major PC build from them though!

I'm inclined to say the reason isn't because of the website redesign but because that's not exactly behaviour that would last very long, unless you think if they went back to the old design tomorrow, you'd start viewing the shop every single day again?

I 100% think all the changes on OCUK is for the better that's been over the years. There has been small problems but nothing they haven't resolved.

The one before the current version was dreadful. It was the Windows ME version of the OcUK shop.

No. The mixture of smilies and emojis looks rubbish and we don't want to lose the Christmas hats.
That's a process which is triggered automatically by your eyes gauging the ambient light in the viewing environment, muscle memory kicking in, manipulating your hand towards the top right corner of the screen and clicking on the palette icon at the appropriate time.

What about viewing posts? As I remember when switching to this forum, it was fugly, really hard to tell when one post ended and another started, until the revised it and added backgrounds to certain elements
That's a shame. Native emoji support is one of the best features of 2.x.
There's no reason you can't have both and you wouldn't lose any Christmas hats.

You're also getting a sneak preview of some of the new avatars as well here. Ranks have been tidied and the order actually makes some kind of sense too.

I think you're overestimating the number of posts that would combine them. Users will generally use one or the other. Old posts will still have the old ones. Many new posts will still have the old ones if users are fond of the classic smilies, however new posts may also have some new ones expressing a greater array of engagement and variety of reactions and emotion due to the jump from a possible 12 classic smilie reactions to over 3.5k searchable native emoji reactions.
For a tech forum it feels a bit backward not to accommodate and allow this, especially as it makes the forum much more mobile friendly as native emoji are tightly engrained into the mobile keyboard and language. To make a concerted decision to disable it when the upgrade make it possible, just because you think the combo doesn't look good doesn't seem like a great reason to me.

I'm not keen on the avatars being on the left, looks to be a lot of white space around the avatars. About time avatars got a revamp, I preferred it when you could choose between your 'earned' avatars
Maybe sounds like a grumble but it's great to see an upgrade in the works
