I've added this to the first post in this thread and thought it worth posting here as well, here's a genuine preview image of the main page. It's looking at an old copy of the database so the posts shown are old, and I haven't expanded out all the sections, just for brevity, no other reason.

There's a feature I didn't know existed already 
Not that I use the Forum home page a lot, but never knew you could expand and collapse forum categories. But then, I only found out about the themes @wiiija made and that I could hide avatars yesterday, so clearly a bit behind the times

You don’t need a theme to turn off avatars, it’s an option in your preferences.

Theming brings so many opportunities to skinning of it though and selecting what you can show via css. It's great!

I know, but I only found this option yesterday, I should check the preferences more often.
