Should the new forum feature a "like" system? (note: this is like only, not dislike)

Why cant we not have a dislike option?

I want to be able to express my disapproval without text/words.

I remember the last nuke back in 2002 and have no problems with new forum software. But *please* make sure content is ported over. There is a wealth of useful stuff in these forums.

Family friendly forum, dislikes aren't friendly. Don't see the big deal personally by not having a dislike button, if you don't like something you don't need to react to each post you disagree by spam clicking that dislike.

We don't need any of this facebook nonsense. The forums work well as they are and adding like/dislike buttons will just open the system to abuse.

I like the idea of not necessarily a "like" button but something which could be used to acknowledge a well thought-out or helpful post.

Comment Karma that type of thing, might stop with the "This, Agreed, Like" single post comments.

New site looks new, changing own usernames say 1 per year would be a nice feature. Saves us having to email a don but some of the "change my username plez" threads are kinda funny.

I would bet that they'll be keeping all the old threads. There are so many classic threads that are often referred back to.

Are we going to wake up one morning, and our worlds will be turned upside down?

Like is very useful for 1 main reason. Acknowledging a reply from someone.

What I mean by this is if you reply to someone which would result in a 1 word reply like "Thanks", "OK", you can just like the post. The user knows you have read it even without adding another post to the thread.

I agree. There's nothing worse than "ooh, unread post, let's see what's new"....

Thanks.

I remember a similar thread about the careers subforum.

Lots of opposition about it but it's turned out to be a really useful area for a lot of people.

A like button isn't a big deal, it's a way of thanking someone or others acknowledging its a good reply. I can't see why people would really be against it.

Why not a like/thanks button that requires a valid reason put into a comment. Not posted as part of the thread, but if someone wants to see why a particular post got so many likes or thanks, you can click into the "thanks" to see that it has some reasoning that can be quantified, rather than just a willy waving publicity contest?

I'd go along with that, if it has to be implemented that is - you've got to actually type a reason behind the thanks and the details of which are available to everybody.
