The left would really hate a like button, because they are more vocal about patting each other on the back, whereas the lazy right would be liking each other and a popular right or Alpha post would be very painful

I think a thanks button would be quite nice in some sections, would save people posting for the sake of saying "Thanks" which I end up doing quite a bit

The trouble with the like button is in some threads you'd just get fanboys or the like basically getting involved in one big circle jerk of likes and then because they have a ton of likes thinking it somehow makes their point valid.

For example those who believe Donald Trump is some kind of messiah!

On the other hand if you felt the need to say thanks surely it's nicer to write it. Seems more sincer.

I'd agree with Mynight there. However if a button is implemented then definitely a thank you button rather than a like button.
