unlike the FPS reboot by 2K Marin (titled “XCOM”), Xenonauts follows the original closely in terms of design, and features Geoscape, base management, and air and ground combat. However, the creators are trying to improve on X-COM in a variety of ways – for example, by adding a directional cover system to the combat system. The game also takes place in the 1979, during the Cold War, and eschews futuristic human technology in favor of more recognizable weapons and vehicles. Xenonauts has been in production for 18 months so far

Sounds promising, as long as they don't feel the need to muck around with the original gameplay too much.

None of the remakes have come close to the tension and cleverness of the original so far, but fingers crossed.

I'd kill for a version of the original that worked on my android :)

There is a way to get the original to work on android, cant say how as its against the rules.

DOSBox is not a hardware emulator, like a PS2 emulator, or an arcade emulator...

Let's not forget that Steam (Valve) use DOSBox. If talk of DOSBox is not allowed, then talk of Steam games that use it should not be either, nor should there be talk of VMWare, or other virtual machine software that you could use to run DOS.

Absolutely ridiculous if this is in fact a rule.

Well that brings back some memories, this is a pre-order for me, even if I forget about it I want them to success so they can have my money.

Loved the original as a wee lad, I loved Terror from the Deep and even Apocalypse. :D

I'm quite enjoying playing UFO AI. It's free and often updated. There are a few bugs still but it's pretty close to the original turn based games.

Last I checked (a long time ago), because that was based on the quake 2 engine, they didn't have destructible terrain. How you are meant to go in and save a town without blowing it to rubble is beyond me!

Is that still true?

Also I was never keen on this: "What we as a team wanted to make is a brand new experience that tries to surpass the quality of games from 1992, rather than simply recreate them with flashier graphics. " Personally I want a game as close to the original as possible, fixing mostly the bugs, with modern graphics.

I also want Sectoids and Chrysalids, but I doubt any recreation will be able to use them, sadly.
