XFX 4890 Audio over HDMI issue

Realtek have a ATI HDMI driver, do you have realtek onboard sound on your mobo? if so maybe worth downloading realteks own HDMI driver.

Joey, i have the Rev B adapter and have the same 'no sound through HDMI' problem you have so buying the adaptor wont help you. Have you tried what i did a few posts up to get it working?

mine is same as the one clairvoyant posted a pic of, as stated works fine on my 4850

u would think they would all be the same.... typical of the pc market lol, good luck

i have the p55-ud4 :S i believe i do have realtek onboard, can u point me to the correct driver?

i tried downloading the latest one from relatek's site, and even tho it was a newer version it still didnt work. i've uninstalled that one and reverted to the ati ccc version and hopefully we'll see when the new adapter arrives!

Good luck Joey, i have run out of ideas. I have actually got mine working now but i have to turn my tv off then back on again while my pc is on and it then recognises it is plugged in on the 'playback devices' list and the status changes from 'not plugged in' to 'ready'. If you have any luck then keep us informed i am not religious so i won't pray for you but i will raise a glass to you tonight and say "to Joey and his 4890" :D

i have an xfx 4890 and i wish to connect it to my hd tv .. however in the box there was no dvi to hdmi converter so i had to buy one . the picture worked but there is no sound.. i tried to select it as defualt sound thingy but it says hdmi output not plugged in the control pannel (windows 7 btw).. what can i do to solve this frustrating problem??

cheers man! only a couple of days til this new part gets delivered and fingers crossed!

tonidbest, i believe, xfx support and the general online concensus is that it must be a specific ATI adapter for the audio over hdmi to work (rev b for 4xxx series). This is due to the DVI standard not supporting audio in any shape or form. What ATI does is implement audio into the video stream in the same way that a HDMI cable can decode it. However it requires the specific ati adapter to get the signal to the right pins, something a generic adapter cant do. I've got an adapter on order for myself, as my XFX 4890 didnt come with one, from XFX themselves, costing £6. When i get it, i'll let you know if it has solved my problem if you want to wait? or you can contact XFX yourself and order this component, and hope it solves your individual problem.

Dont forget whatever you do, that for audio to be sent out over the hdmi, it needs to be selected in the playback devices, as shown a bit further up this thread.

sure will do. what does your adapter have on it out of interest?

EDIT: Doh forgot to look back! i think if you google your part number it comes back as Rev B.?
