Picked this up last week for the new build. However the new build is project so im in no rush to complete with a white and blue theme. The backplate is so large and black it would just stand out. So I wanted to change it...

Therefore removed the backplate today and I was not exactly impressed with the XFX pad placement as some are literally just missing some chips.

However the pads they have used are these disgusting soft pads, which seem to saturate into the board. Any tips for cleaning these? especially the main chipset?

Thanks.

I have the same with the 3080fe after I installed gelid extreme pads on the back pcb , would also love to know what is the best method to clean them off

a lot of patience, isopropyl alcohol and q-tips work for me. I had the same when replacing a waterblock on a 6800XT.

Not for the faint of heart but for the ones on the resistors and pcb which refuse to budge, i used the back end of a scalpel to remove and scrape away (obviously don't expect you to do the same.. i take no responsibility if you mess up the card), but with patience and delicate trimming, it's possible...

otherwise if money was no object, get one of those sonic cleaners where you put iso alcohol in a container and the machine uses vibrations to 'clean' the card.

Well in my Ifixit kit it came with a small scraper/shovel item, that was easy for the large ones and just very gently slid off. However it worries me more about the capacitors in the centre!

maybe try rolling the pads off carefully very slowly and with residue left using isopropyl alcohol with Q tip also could try toothpick slowly picking away carefully or maybe esd brush soaked in isopropyl alcohol and carefully on residue, looking back now I should have used the ultimate versions of the pads for back pcb as they dont turn into mush
