XP loading screen 30sec prob

Hello done a fresh install on a new build

dfi infinity nf4 socket 939
venice 3200
2x512ocz ddr
geforce 7900
2 sata drives in raid 0
1sata drive


all works fine once in windows all fly etc no probs

problem is when booting the computer and you get to the xp loading screen with the scrolling bar it waits 30 sec before seems to do anything, is same amount of time everythime. so i jsut its waiting or checking for something etc, seems like there be a simple setting somewhere or its a known prob

anything to do with raid 0??
 
update all of your drivers and install nvidia chipset drivers if you haven't already

and run bootvis it'll tell you what driver/service/program is slowing it all down
 
The scrolling screen is also to do with something about the network devices being detected. Is the LAN plugged in?

I wouldn't be surprised. I'm connected to the Uni network via my network port. The Uni network isn't the best and sometimes the scrolling bars are on screen for longer than I'd like. Course in the summer when I get the PC home the scrolling bars come and go so quickly I barely notice them. Thats when I realise my PC is actually fast at booting, its just the ruddy network here that slows me down in the morning.

I've thought about unplugging the cable when I turn the PC off in the evening so that the boot up in the morning is faster.

It might be worth the OP, if he has a connection like this, unplugging the network cable and booting up to see if that is slowing the PC down at boot up.

Would that be the driver that the nVidia nForce installer prompts you to install over the Windows one? How would I roll back the drivers to the Windows default? Go to the hard disks in Device Properties and roll them back there or is it another device I need to mess with?

Windows is only going though a hardware detection phase when the Windows Xp loading screen is visible and has nothing to do with network connections.

DHCP, Application of Group policy etc are applied at or just before logon. This can sometimes lead to slow boot times depedning on your network configuration.

removed lan cable, no difference, didnt think it was this as it did it straght away after install when lan wasnt even plugged i.

disablle ncq in windows no difference, i rekon its def something to do with sata raid,

ill boot vis and get back
 
bootvis just shows a 32 second gap

only things can find to disable is

tagged queing
synchronus transfers
command queing(tried this did nothing)
 
Well when you talk about a 32 second gap is that a gap where nothing is happening or 32 seconds of something happening?

If its the latter you might be able to work out what it is and how to reduce the delay or stop it even. But I can't imagine a PC doing absolutely nothing for 32 seconds in boot up.
 
only thing i can think of is that im using sata ports 3 and 4 for the raid 0

but aint formatting now or can i just move them across to 1 and 2 ?? will it keep my data etc
 
Well there is a school of though that disabling any COM and serial ports etc that you don't use speeds up booting times. I know in my BIOS I've disabled the 3rd and 4th serial ports because I'm not using them so I hope to save boot time and IRQs on them.
 
Argh! Damn you and your PC. Always one step of me.:o Hmm just thinking have you defragged recently? Might be a long shot but thats all I've got atm.
 
lol yer defragged i cant see as it being a setting windows tbh, i rekon that i need to go to sata 1 and 2 n format but aint doing that
 
I had an issue thats sounds just like this. Uninstalled daemon tools and it sorted it out straight away
