Hello,

How go i go about installing xp on an acer aspire one with linux and 8gb ssd hard drive...

No idea here..

you need a usb optical drive m8, then go to bios and set it to boot from that and install as normal

I've just put XP on a 110 using a USB flash drive. Slipstreamed the XP with SP3 and the Aspire drivers to make a lot faster install.

Yep and I found SP2 was the minimum I had to use or I couldn't for the life of me get the sound system to even recognise. I ended up with XP Pro SP2 OEM then slipstreamed it to SP3 along with the drivers. Takes ages otherwise.

Be carefull, whilst XP will run just fine on an 8gb AAO, it will be dog slow unless you install the EWF manager/driver.

Ive got xp on it now and it is slow...

whats this filter malarky... ewf? how do I work it.. seems complicated

EWF basically diverts all HDD writes to ram, then commits or discards them at shutdown. To be honest it is a bit of an arse to install, but once installed XP absolutely flies, although ideally you want 1.5gb ram.

Infact I'm running Vista on mine with EWF installed and it runs like a dream (I upgraded mine to 1.5gb).

I gave TinyXP a go when I had an AAO with the 8GB SSD, and it was absurdly quick. Bit limited in functionality because it's totally stripped down, plus it's obviously not legal, but it was very quick. Quicker than any version of Linux I tried, in fact.

Im so confused with this EWF...

I got that program but its telling me to get 3 seperate files from a embedded service pack trial.. I have no idea where to get that...

I thought i found something but i couldnt install it because my xp is sp3 and this was something to do with sp2....

You aren't supposed to install it, just mount the .iso and grab the files from it.

They are contained in one of the .cab files IIRC.

Mount the ISO, deamon tools or similar. The files are inside XPEFP2007.exe of 'rep' directory, open it with something like winrar.
