Just wondering if there are any who still use XP as I do?

I have been thinking though it might be time to switch over and though there's lots to read about this subject on the internet, I am interested to see what the readers here have to say?

If I make the move, it would be Win7 64bit as I wish to make use of the higher amount of ram I have and then there's the gaming etc.

I think that if u decide to change into 7, choose carefully, dont download, as viruses are prone to occur on systems that are illegal and also, if u want a 64BIT OS, you must make sure that your motherboard and processor is a x64 processor type, if not, the computer will not run the OS, and itll be bad times :(

Win 7 is much nicer to use. Uses a lot more resources than XP though, and is slower on the same hardware. Search is much better, I find the task bar very useful, and it handles drivers very well. By all acconts it's more secure as well.

other than the hours reinstalling everytthing the possiblilty of app compatibility, the new printer when w7 does not have your drivers and the £100+ cost...
It takes me less than 30 mins to reinstall all apps and updates after a new install of windows, not hours.
Windows 7 has been released to publishers for 18 months now so the argument about drivers not working is a thing of the past, even if they haven't made a driver yet Win7 is compatible with older drivers for XP or Vista.

Then lastly Win7 has a much bigger generic driver base that any other windows yet, which means the chances of some thing not working at next to none.

That driver argument is getting a little long winded now. XP users need to find a new way to stick to their unsupported ageing OS

Windows 7 is the easiest and by far the quickest Os yet and I have yet to need to find drivers for anything. Well worth buying.
Go 64 if you can as 120 is on the horizon.

lol those old chestnuts
they get said every time a now OS comes out
i updated a 3 year old laptop, win 7 even when it was in beta had every driver, i didn't need to find any
even my very old epson 740 has a driver

Win7 is a nice os.

It's possibly as good as XP but only time will tell... but so far... its gets positive feedback from end users and the business community.

I bought it prerelease for £45 thought I should buy it now as at £45 thats what software should cost, not what they want for it now...

Greedy software developers... and they complain about piracy!

I work from home, so I play games too and have been happy with XP, but was just looking at "if" it was the time to move over or just hold on to XP. I think I'll look in to having a dual boot to see what it's like with Win7 and go from there.

TY to everybody for your input

I would not say it uses a lot more resources, you have to remember Win7 uses ram a lot more efficiently then XP,plus XP was released way back in 2001 so hardware back then is hmm crap lol...,it really is showing its age etc....

I could never go back to XP,infact even my non gaming PC has had XP removed for Ubuntu(Linux) years ago, gaming PC has Win7 x64 :).

Correction Win7 is 10x better then XP ;).

That is the best thing you can do to be honest doing a dual boot. You can then see if you like it or not. But to be honest I could never ever go back to Windows XP now. I hate when I have to fix a PC for someone on XP lol.

Couldn't have said it better myself! XP should have died many moons ago.

That's kind of my point. If you install 7 on an older machine with limited RAM, and a single core processor the performance will be worse than XP.

That's why I use Ubuntu rather then XP its light on resources, more secure, updated often, infact with choice of Linux distros' you are spoilt for choice.I except the fact Win7 has limits with minimium hardware but the fact is there are better options out there then XP.

As to gamers, well they normally keep their PCs updated so going Vista or Win7 for gaming is not an issue hardware wise.

well my system is a few years old:

E7400 Duo
4gig ram
GTX260 core 213

Good enough for what I use it for, but giving it to my son in a years time to get a better one.

Now that's what I call "New" just right for Windows 7 64bit
I am running it superbly on an Old" 478 3ghz with 2GB of ram. With Windows 7 you will think you have died and gone to heaven!

You can download a trial version of Windows 7 Enterprise and use it for 90 days, which should give you plenty of time to evaluate it. :)

Utter rot! £125 will get you Windows 7 HP Retail [and you can likely find a better price than that if you shop around] and that is one hell of a bargain.

People seem to forget that the first and last piece of software they use on their PC every day, and every minute in between is their operating system. The piece of software that lets them play games, browse porn and pretend to do work is their operating system. The piece of software that lets you use all the shiny things in that humming metal box next to your monitor is their operating system. The piece of software that is updated weekly for years, at no extra cost, is their operating system.
