Xperia Tablet Z

I use Nova launcher, I didn't use the stock launcher for long but it was not bad tbh.

Still waiting on a dock.

Surprised more people aren't all over this tablet, but since inception the high range Android 10 inch hasn't ever been much of a big market.

I gather news of Tegra 4 tablets with higher res screens is probably not helping either...

Looks like it's only about 4-5 of us who have one here... :o :p

Just waiting for Sky Go to sort themselves out. The battery on this is very good I find as well. I use stock and never can be bothered to customize this or my Note 2.

I've stuck with stock launcher and not changed much, infact most of the changes I've done were to make it more minimalistic - aside from crackle its free of the 3rd party fluff and branding usually bundled with these devices so I just removed a few of the sony media/social apps I'll never use and kept it pretty much stock.

Who knows if Sky ever will sort it out? They haven't for the Nexus 10. It's one of the things I really miss on the Tablet Z. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple have some kind of deal with Sky where they won't release Sky Go for any 10 inch Android tablets.

The LTE version seems pretty decent with mobile data to - stuck a giffgaff sim in it - reception is about as good as I've ever got with the O2 network. Getting 80-100ms ping - HSPA+ connections around here seem to hard cap at 3.6Mbit/s tho - speedtests are bang on 3600kbit/s up and down.

MM slim, crappy filters ftw

Had a play with one in the sony store earlier, along with the latest sony phone.

The tablet seemed very slick, much faster than my sony xperia original tablet.

I realised my phone tablet and headphones are all sony.... psychological. Much

mmmm white Sony tablet looks much nicer - shame I really wanted the white version but they didn't have it for the LTE version.

Prefer the black myself but the white does make it a lot easier to photograph.

Having a bit of an odd issue with it and MHL - works fine on a 1080p projector or hooking it upto a 1080+p monitor/TV via HDMI or DVI but 720p projectors and lower res monitor it just keeps constantly connecting and disconnecting and showing no image - while they work fine via MHL on my phone and 2 of the 720p projectors can take signals upto 2560x1440 (just render them either compressed or interpolated).

Got the 16GB Black from John Lewis last week. Very pleased all round. Need to get the dock though to charge without opening the flap all the time.

Everyone just keeps commenting on how thin/light it is and how good the screen looks.

Popped a 32GB Sony card in too, only £20.

Had a play with one of these in my local O2 stores and have to admit, Sony have done a great job with this tablet. Build quality is fantastic and I believe Sony are supporting AOSP builds in light of all the Google Edition devices.

so for people that have owned both a nexus 10 and Xperia z does this comparison seem accurate?

i was thinking about waiting for the nexus 7 refresh and getting one or the nexus 10 for reading books, watching movies while traveling, occasionally surfing the web and the odd game. but the Xperia Z is lighter than my current Archos 80 G9 so shouldn't cause any strain for everyday reading with the added bonus of been able to read in the bath or Spa without the fear of getting it wet.

Yea, it's a good comparison... Both devices are very fast and smooth with one doing better in one area and one in another... Apart from the higher resolution of the nexus 10 the xperia wins at everything else. Of course there is price to take into account but I think the Z is worth the extra.

I've been thinking about a 10" tablet for someone and this has really caught my eye.

Is this thing easy to unlock and put a custom rom on? When I had a tablet S you needed a degree in Linux programming just to root the bloody thing. I swore I would never get a Sony tablet ever again after that. ROM development was dead as well.

Will this be different for this tablet?

Rooting is extremely easy, I did mine in a few minutes... installing a custom rom, no idea, but Sony give you the tools to unlock the bootloader... What rom would you be looking to install and why?

The stock android experience on the Z is pretty good, no crashes, nice and smooth not sure there is much to gain with a custom rom over just rooting. At least at the moment.
