XR2 Project... Update! (Cryfreeman might like this))

Does it being a classic suddenly make all the rattles disappear then ? :p

The Rovers of the early 90s were miles better than the late 90s stuff. Honda Engineering behind most of them and were certainly some of the best built in their class.

I want an Acclaim...Does that make me bad?

Don't even try and talk Fox round. You just won't win.

It's ok agw, I dislike the Escort just as much, infact I'd take your car over one without hesitation - but the Escort is 'worth' saving becuase it is perceived by many to be a classic.

Put it this way - people breaking early E39 528i's for spares don't make me think 'shame' becuase as awesome as the 528i is - many cite it as the best car of its type ever made - it's just a 528i. It has no cult status attached to it. To break one is not really a huge deal.

Does that make it a bit clearer?

It does, so thank you for your reply (and no sarcasm there btw, I mean that).

However, just because YOU don't know of any groups that want to keep original Rover Turbo's alive, that doesn't mean they don't exist.

I'm going to do everything in my power to keep my original Rover Turbo in pristine condition. Who cares if it costs me thousands of pounds. Unlike you, part of my motoring hobby is working on my car. I don't keep tabs on how much fuel I spend a week or how much I spend on parts. If my car needs work doing to it, I don't really care. It's an old Rover in your eyes, but it's worth something to me and many other people.

By the way, I do apologise for repeatedly going on about this... but when you say something like that, you've got to expect a reaction :)

Penski is 100% right about the flow of air, hence why when designing the new bonnet for the vette we left the whole back part open, air hits the screen and is sucked into the carbs at such a high rate through the bulge we had to cut blow back holes as it was lifting the bonnet at speeds.
Fitting this bonnet with the increased airflow upped the engine performance considerably.

Little update, managed to get the engine ready to come out of the RS Turbo today... thinking im gonna drop it down thru instead of lift it out? Left as much as possible on the engine to cut work down.. Labelled everything ive taken off too, just incase lol!

Nice one mate, should get a few quid for the 90 spec bits off the RS when you've finished. As said though, just please put the rolling shell back on the 'bay so it gets a chance to live again!.
:)

Are you going to put the RST top end on your Zetec?

Did have a think about it, but decided against it... As stupid as it sounds, i wanna get it all in and running, so i know all the wiring is right as standard, then go from there. If you get what i mean?

Going on what needs doing the machining work is probably quite expensive too and you need someone who knows what they're doing unless you want a lot of through-tooth sucking and head shaking like I've seen from a certain well known engine builder.

Dropped it out from underneath! How much fun lol! Couldnt stop laughing as i nearly got the car over my mate! :p

Anyways, an update, managed to get the engine out of the RS Turbo and into the XR2 today. Dropped it out from underneath on the RS Turbo, much easier. While out, i fitting new timing belt kit, kent cams vernier and a new water pump. Also fitted a new clutch as the one in the Escort was shockingly bad!

Piccy of the engine on its way

Engine is all bolted up int he XR2, various bits and bobs connected. Need to drill holes for the Metering head and also figure out how the hell im going to fit the Radiator and Fan as there is NO room for the fan? Other than that got a bit done!

fitting the tubby lump aint too bad ;) been there done that,

just remember you'll need to take a bit out of the front crossmember to make way for the exhaust also helps to shove the battery into the boot, as for the rad and fan i'm afraid your gona have to start chopping the front panel around :) have fun

need any help e-mail in trust :)

Already got the battery in the boot.. Yea i noticed about the cross member :( Dont really wanna start hacking my front panel about but if i need to :( Tis a damn new front panel! argh :(

piece of **** to put a zetec bottom end on. mate of mine bought an 1800 and stuck the bottom end on his xr3i cabby in a weekend. just needs a few bits blocking off etc and the 2.0l isnt much different. there's a guide on the internet that my mate used.

apparently if you fit the T25 turbo from the fiesta turbo you can do it without chopping anything. its a damned tight squeeze though.

Front panel is the easy bit, making a nice job of the cross memeber is the git :)

You could probally get a custom elbow/downpipe fabbed up if the idea of cutting the member sounds to nasty :)
