Next month its new shoes all round with laser alignment  (it currently has 3 different brands of winter tyres on it, huzzah!)

Now, I'm not really upto date on Tyres...my wheel size is 225/45/17...can anyone shed some light on whats good and what to avoid?

I've always read good things about the Vredstein (Sp?) tyres, and I've looked £92 a corner in my size from Camskill?

Any other recommendations? :) I won't be tracking it, just good all round performance in most conditions needed really.

Thanks!
Jake

It's good practice to do it every time you get tyres.

Why? Tyres wouldn't affect your suspension geometry. Once every couple of years perhaps, but I wouldn't have thought you'd need to every time you get tyres unless you change sizes.

No, but bumps in the road, potholes, kerbs, etc do affect your suspension geometery which is why a tyre change over time is as good a time as any to get it checked out and adjusted if neccesary. Almost all tyre places will check for free if you are buying tyres.

Lolwhat?

A pot hole can knock your geometry out 10 minutes after alignment and destroy the inside edge within 2000 miles (true story - happened to the Focus).

I'd be inclined to get the tracking done every few months with crap roads.

How come you need a laser alignment?

I have no 'real' idea of the cars history for the sake of £100ish at a place less than 5 minutes from my house getting it done to ensure ultimate Swedish wafting goodness along with even tyre wear, better mpg..seems almost rude not to.

Thanks for the input guys.

Possibly confusing basic tracking (not the op) with a full hunter alignment, which whilst I'm sure it wouldn't hurt would seem a waste of 80 quid to do it every time the wheels are off

You dont need to spend 80 quid to check the allignment - you only need to actually perform an allignment if the car needs it! You check it - if its fine, then you dont need to do anything. If its not fine then it needs doing regardless of whether it was last done 1 mile or 100k miles ago as... well... its wrong.

No need to bother with Vreds at that size, the class leading UHP tyres are barely any more expensive:

Either of those will be absolutely excellent.

Thanks for this, just to confirm...are the Vreds good for performance tyres at a larger size with not quite the cost other branded tyres that size cost?

They are not bad but they are an old tyre now and things have moved on. At only £10 less I can't see why you would choose them?

The CS5 and F1A2 are just.. better.

You know what I mean, most tyre places cant/dont do a "proper" 4 wheel laser alignment

Not bothered about the £10 - just remember reading about them being good so I was curious about them.

I will pick one of the two you suggested, will depend entirely on availability at the time. Thanks! :)

For what its worth I much prefer the conti's to asymetric eagle f1s.....I miss the gsd3

I have CS3's all round and the only thing I prefer on them over my old Assymetrics is the fact they last longer and give better fuel economy, ie boring non-performance stuff.

The AS2 fixes both of these so will be my next tyre.
