Couple of things.

It's not my own RSV ( honest officer!!!

), in fact, its an RSV-R.

The neutral light is on, as is the sidestand warning light. So yes, its standing still. The Mille has a dash function that can record highest top speed, average speed etc then store them. Thought I'd point that out before someone called "Photoshop!!!".

That speed was obtained on a track day, not on the roads.
It's an "indicated" speed, however, Aprilia speedo's are acknowledged in the industry for being 99.9% accurate.

Just thought it was a cool picture.

Been 8mph slower as a passenger in a car in real life, those speeds on a bike must be insane!

I always think bikes should be unstable at that speed but I guess its simpler then a car.

Could the police use that as evidence I wonder. They are using ECU data in accident investigations now

Perhaps but i'm not sure if it will record the time and date of the speed recorded. you could always just say "oh that 170mph was froma trackday i was at..."

168MPH indicated is IL4 600cc speeds.

And as for Aprillia Speedo's being accurate, that cant apply to RS125's then, even at 95-100MPH real speed the speedo will read 110-120MPH

It is now, yeah, I agree......its amazing the way technology has increased over even the last decade as far as bikes go. The new Yam R6 is testiment to that.

You could well be right. Not being "picky", but the RS dash is a different design and set up compared the the Mille. A few years ago, Performance Bikes mag did a test of various manufacturers speedo's and checked for discrepancies and errors/over reads.

The Aprilia came out top with a very low error margin. :cool:

I had 186 on the clock on the zx10r before chickening out. Stuck my head up a bit to early and the wind blast blew the vents off my helmet :eek:

Eye sight became quite blurred at that speed, thats why you got to take your hat off to the guys that race often reaching those speeds.

My neighbour has a GSXR100 (I think thats what it is) in black, very nice looking machine. He was talking to my dad not long ago about it and he reckons it can do 110Mph in 1st gear, is he telling the truth?

From memory the ZX10 does 100mph in first, so yes he is most probably telling the truth if it is one of the latest models.

Yes current 1000cc bikes do just over 110MPH in first gear and still have enough power to wheelie in the first few gears. They make fast cars seem slow

I've altered the gearing on mine, which is a common mod on RSV's.

Despite what the text in my sig says, its now running 16 tooth front and 44 tooth rear Renthals.

It *pops* wheelies in the first three gears at the very sniff of the throttle. :cool:

Knocked about 1 second off the 0-60 time, and "in gear" stomp for overtaking and punching out of corners has increased quite substantialy.

Took about 15-20mph off the top end doing so, but I prefer it that way, who needs or indeed, can use, mega top end speeds these days anyway??!!.

This was a pic of my dash from last year after I carried out the gearing mods ( again, not on the road ) taken after it was on the dyno getting its Power Commander III fitted:-

Reckon it had another 10 or so mph to go. :cool:

It is actually, aye.

It's normal, it goes out a few seconds after the ignition is switched on.

Must have just been quick taking the picture.

Actually a bike is extremely stable at high speeds

I guess the police could use it, but they'd have to prove that it wasn't done on a track etc..

Fastest indictated speed I've got out of mine was 145 - still had some left, apparently max is 156? Eitherway it's fast enough - it gets there quickly enough

I've been a passenger on a 'busa, it's quite awesome how you can reach close to 100mph in 1st!

I thought doing 80 in 2nd was good!

I love it when your stood in a lay-by with your helmet off and people look at you when they pass, half a mile later your overtaking them and their face is like WTF

And aye 106mph 1st gear zx10r, might be hard to understand if you've not done it,remember it probably only takes 5-6 seconds to get there.

I've just hit the limiter in top on my old Thou on Revitt straight at Snetterton.

Quite possibly the best and biggest buzz I have ever had. Especially when the bloke behind me decided he wasn't going to stop, take out the bloke in front of me and let me into 6th place.

Dunno, change up at between 13-14,000rpm usually, but since the NC30 has a tall 1st gear, dunno what speed that is.
