Yeah yeah I know another E46 thread!

Thats more than 3 times the cost of an aftermarket bluetooth system, and ergo is 'expensive'.

Exactly. It's not as if the CK3000 "looks" aftermarket. There is no visible parrot anything, you don't need the control box at all.

I couldn't justify an extra £200-250 just to have it "OEM".

It's not 'very expensive' though especially for OEM bluetooth and as you mentioned it does quite a bit more. You can even read SMS messages on the nav screen.

Luckily for me I see texting as a backwards, restrictive and outmoded form of communication. I'll use the phone for what it was inteded... phoning.

Where did you get £350 from? It cost me about £250 and that was with the OEM loom. You could get it under £200 I reckon.

Aftermarket ones are completely different but like you I have an e46 which isn't really worth a great deal so I left the Sony Ericsson kit in there. If I was spending £8000 on an e46 then paying £200 for OEM bluetooth would be what I'd do as I've used both and OEM has far more functionality. Seeing on the screen who is calling is useful enough alone. Also the full voice control of the car is worth the extra £100 for OEM bluetooth alone as a cool gimmick/gadget.

With regards to your last statement, well bully for you - not everyone is a dinosaur though. :)

You did it for £200, just like you also did a complete Mk4 retrofit for £34.90 and a packet of polos.

It costs everyone else a fortune.

My mk4 retrofit cost me about £500 I reckon, only because I was patient with buying bits and I was able to repair a broken mk4 I picked up for £70odd quid.

When I fitted the bluetooth I bought everything from the dealer apart from the ULF which iirc was about £100 so you can't compare that to my nav retrofit. If anything I overspent because I spent double on the OEM loom rather than buying one from the BMWLand guy.

Anyway, I'll stop arguing with numpties now ;). I'll just say that I've owned both OEM and aftermarket and the OEM is miles better and worth the £100 more, especially if you are spending £8000 on a car. You have full and proper integration and full voice control of the whole car -well worth it. I have no bias towards either solution, in fact like paradigm I own a ***** e46 with ***** bluetooth now so if anything I'd be defending aftermarket as much as he is if I had an agenda.

Hence why im looking for the facelift model as thats more likely to have it, its not a vital feature as I can retrofit BT if necessary.

True, but for your budget that's still 'only' going to be a late 2003/early 2004 car.

Echoing the comments of drop the BT and Sunroof and you should have more luck :)

Well i don't particularly want to know about the ins and outs of OEM bluetooth over aftermarket solutions, as my original question was about the difference between the 330ci and 325ci besides the 1/2 litre drop in engine capacity.

There's not much difference other than exactly that AFAIK, the running costs are pretty much identical though which is why everyone I know seems to have plumped for the 330 :)

There is a 2 and a 5 on the badge instead of a 3 and a 0 as well.

What if they are debadged though. :o

I chose a 325i touring and a 325ci over equivalent 330 models but I don't really want to end up spamming the thread with the reasons I thought it was a good decision and my experiences of 325 ownership over the past few years.

I agree with wicksta, we shouldnt spam this thread with ownership experiences and information about various features of M54 powered BMW's.

That is useful information to know Fox as its a vital component in the car, unlike bluetooth :P

How is it useful though?

The M54B25 and M54B30 are essentially the same engine with a difference in capacity. You lose power, you lose performance, and you keep the same running and maintenance characteristics. This is why the 3.0 is the "one to go for" out of the 6-cylinder models, because you are lumbered with incredibly similar fuel consumption and running costs, but lose out on performance for no gain elsewhere.

This can be seen purely by looking at statistics, which you have already seen.

Just what else do you need to know/what can we tell you about the engine?

If its purely an engine capacity difference and the running costs are near enough identical why are there so few 330's on the market?

Must be more than just an extra 500cc and a 3 and 0 in the name!

Any trim or equipment differences ?

The main reason is cost when new I would imagine.

The 330 comes with more equipment as standard, such as automatic lights/wipers, and there are slight trim differences such as chromed kidney grill slats.
