yes i think i will get a....

wow some jealousy detected here...

go and read a review of the N91 or take it from people who own both an ipod and a N91 like i do...the n91 has a lot better sound quality hands down everyone knows that...even my friends whilst randomly listening to my N91 after the battery has run out on their nanos or videos say the sound is a lot better on this than on my ipod...

and battery life kills my ipod...i get around 8-10 hours on my ipod and around 25 hours of music playback on my N91...and the camera, well its the best 2mp camera out right now and its the best 2mp video recording camera as it records at 15fps...the only other better cameras (for video recording) are the ones on the N73 and N93...

trust me the N91 is a million times better than my ipod...i have around 30 gigs of music that i listen to and id sacrifice 26gb for the N91...and i never thought id ever say that

and i own a e900/n80/n7r/k750i/k800i so im not bias towards the N91...it has the best 2mp camera of the group but obviously the N73/k800i are better at pictures...the n80s camera is only slightly better than the n91's

Still a a series 60 nokia device, which is reason enough to steer clear from personal experience after getting my fingers burnt with the woeful n80.

I tried a n91 recently albeit breifly, and wasn't particularly impressed with the sound quality. I'd of said comparable to the ipods, but certainly not better.

Its not jealousy at all. Its realism. The N91 cant compare to a dedicated MP3 player. Its not jealousy, its fact. Mobile phones have so many more parts that can cause interference than a MP3 player.
Its quite obvious that your proud of your N91 and like it. Good for you. It suits your uses and you like it. Thats good. But you must realise, that it cannot compare to a dedicated MP3 player.

the n91 has a lot better sound quality hands down everyone knows that...even my friends
Oh, well as your friends have said....;)
Many of us have read reviews of the N91. Used one. Owned one. ect;
So you cant critisise on that point.

whilst randomly listening to my N91 after the battery has run out on their nanos or videos say the sound is a lot better on this than on my ipod...
So your saying that the N91 has better battery life? Hmm.....No.
It struggles to get 10 hours, the iPods are rated at 15-20hours after a few changes.

and the camera, well its the best 2mp camera out right now and its the best 2mp video recording camera as it records at 15fps...the only other better cameras (for video recording) are the ones on the N73 and N93...
Again. No. The best 2MP camera on a phone belongs to the K750/D750/W800/W810. Thats pretty much universally recognised.
I can allways provide some evidence backing up my points if you want. ;)
To both this point and the battery one.

trust me the N91 is a million times better than my ipod...i have around 30 gigs of music that i listen to and id sacrifice 26gb for the N91...and i never thought id ever say that
Again, your proud of your N91. It does what you want and fits your needs. Thats fine. But dont go 'pimping' it as something it isnt.

lol it may come across that i am but to tell you the truth i was a lot prouder recieving my ipod and i still am more proud with my ipod than my n91, as ive always wanted one and always will...

and i charge me N91 once every 2 days and i get around 8 hours of music 3 hours of calls and around 10-15 texts and 20 mins of wi-fi over the 2 days...i know this is a lot more than other N91 users as i have joined the nokia forums and people generally get 1 day but still from my experience it is a LOT more than my ipod...

i have the k750i and honestly my N91 provides better pictures...i was surprised by this as SE's generally make the best camera phones but its true and its exptected looking at the age of the phone...and try taking a video with the phones you mentioned, with the exception of one they are ghastly to take videos with.

and if you want proof here it is:

"Because not every one uses such a headset on the street, we used a second headset; the ultimate headset for any mobile user; the Shure E3c. Not well-known at the main customer and with a price range around the price of a new iPod the headset shows a value not seen elsewhere. More about that in the next part of the test.

This exclusive headset and the standard headsets show that the N91 scores the best on the audio quality and over the complete spectrum. The professionals were unanimous and were amazed about the strong identity of the device. "How louder, how better it was!" was a significant statement. They also declared that the N91 was much more transparent than the iPod. The iPod was felt as rather screaming device and especially when using the Shure E3c headset."

Thats hardly proof when you dont even list the source for a start.
No-ones denying its a good phone.
But to compare it to an MP3 player and make claims that are blatently rubbish doenst exactely improve your position does it?
You've claimed that the battery life is amazing. When its quite clearly not.
You've claimed that the sounds quality is better than an iPod, which while is subjective, is generally considered 'not' because of the extra components in a phone that create sound distortion & interference.

i have the k750i and honestly my N91 provides better pictures...i was surprised by this as SE's generally make the best camera phones but its true and its exptected looking at the age of the phone...and try taking a video with the phones you mentioned, with the exception of one they are ghastly to take videos with.
True. The SEs do take bad videos. QCIF@15fps when most phones now do QCIF@30, or even VGA isnt really a selling point.
But we can argue about this all day long, but the fact is that the N91s camera isnt as good as the K750. Sure, its better at taking videos, but thats not down to the camera, thats down to the phone. But in regards to photos, the SEs of the same generation takes photos that are sharper, more colourful, store more stats in the file and are generally just better. The N91s camera isnt bad by anymeans, but the K750 and its varients are the benchmark for 2MP camera phones. Thats not just my opinion. Ask anyone in the phones forum, check any review site, and 99% of them will agree with me on that point.

Again, your proud of your phone, but dont make it out like its something its not. Its a good phone, but your trying to make it sound like some super-phone when its anything but.

I think the way we have to settle the N91 vs iPod is to compare them as MP3 players only.
And in that regards. Battery Life, Price, Capacity, Transfer Speed, Interface, ect; the iPod wins. The only 'debatable' one is sound quality, and thats because its entirely subjective.

why would anyboy be jealous of a phone LOL

its a brick, doesnt have the best camera and its s60. but thats enough about the bad points. I hate to say this but dont write the phone off yet guys. I'm certain the n91 makes use of certain burr-brown dacs, which already, on paper at least, puts it about most mp3 players out there.Somebody wanna confirm that for me before trashing the n91 any more? ;)

It appears it does. But regardless, as a pure mp3 player, which is what the OP wanted, we should be rating it on its mp3 abilities, and as ive said, apart from sound quality, which is subjective, the N91 loses in every area to almost any other MP3 player. The only thing going for it is the fact that for people who dont want multiple devices, they can have a phone/mp3 player in one.

sound quality is a pretty inportant feature imo, and the music software on the phone isn't all that bad. sure its not as easy to use as an ipod, but it was never going to be. People doubting the sound quality should go looking for reviews, because every one of them says its excellent, some even mentioning how much better than various mp3 players it is. *cough*ipod*cough

such as? format support? its better than most mp3 players, and dont forget this is an s60 phone. they'll be software released with support for all kinds of formats. easy of use, well, thats a given but its not just an mp3 player. battery life? yes, ipods are better. well, thats not really true of any 4-8gb ipod though, is it? what else is there?

Id never buy the phone because its a jack of all trades, but there is no doubting the SQ and tbh its a winner just for that. Theres a reason why i use my rockbox'd iriver 5gb h10 and not my 30gb istation when i'm just out and about, and thats because of the sound quality. the n91, ive no doubt, is better still.

Must be reading different reviews to me. ;)
Most just comment on the DACs, say the qualitys better than the SE walkman series, and dont really have a lot of comparisons to normal MP3 players.

Capacity. Battery Life. Interface Usage. Interface Speed. Transfer Speed. Price.
As for formats, its been how long since the N91s release and it still doesnt support much more than MP3, AAC, WMA & AMR? All of which most mp3 players already do, and most, more becides.
Battery life compared to the new Nanos and normal iPods cant compare. The N91, despite a certain members claims, has half the net disagreeing with him in regards to battery life, and thats just looking at the first page of google results!
Again, rated on just mp3 abilities, its not all that impressive. But rated as a multi-function device, which appeals to some, its good.

Id never buy the phone because its a jack of all trades, but there is no doubting the SQ and tbh its a winner just for that. I agree sound quality is importent. But what use is the sound quality being good if it cant last long? ;)

But, as ive said, the sound quality is up for debate seeing as its subjective anyway. ;)

you bring up valid points and ill look for the source in a second...

well im only speaking from experience and in my experience i get 25 hours of playback and if im going to be away from my house for more than 5 hours then im obviously going to take my N91...AND as ive stated i know that other people report about 10-15 hours of music playback with their n91 but i easily get 25 hours believe me or not but thats the truth

the ipod has a better interface as expected but the N91 interface is still exceptional in comparison to most other mp3 players...the most impressive feature is where u just type in the name or artist and it brings the artist/name...the ui is a lot quicker than expected and in all fairness the transfer speed is rubbish but i guess it has to have flaws...and as for price well one person picked it up for £200 and if you get it on contract its a lot cheaper than an ipod and a phone...thats without even including the contract...

and if you go on any forum most people get around 10 hours with their 5g ipod which isnt acceptable...a company can rate it with 15 hours or 20 hours of playback but as you know its exaggeration...phone companies say they have 300 hours of standby but it isnt true...

and whilst were on the topic of price all the people ive known have had their ipods become faulty or break after a period of 1-2 years...if you bought another one it would be a lot more expensive over a 2 year period in comparison to buying a N91...and before you say the N91's build quality can be debated, nokia put it through a large amount of durability tests and one consisted of 300 drops from a table top onto carpet (im not sure if this is true or an exaggeration)...and i must concede that the N91 build quality is really good and the titanium makes it that slightly more durable :)

i cant find the link but i got a screenshot i took...and my english is probably wrong and my arguements are probably not structured properly but ive been awake for waaay too long

Explain why every other review around claims that more than 6-7hours is hard to get then. If you can explain that, then i'll belive you. But in the more likely scenario that you cant, then its obvious that its rubbish im afraid.

...and as for price well one person picked it up for £200 and if you get it on contract its a lot cheaper than an ipod and a phone...thats without even including the contract...
Where are you picking one up for £200? Most places quote £400+

and if you go on any forum most people get around 10 hours with their 5g ipod which isnt acceptable...a company can rate it with 15 hours or 20 hours of playback but as you know its exaggeration...
Ive seen most reports saying that 17hours+ is easy on an iPod 5g. So i dont know where you've been looking.
I havnt heard of anyone getting 10hours or below on a 5g iPod Video.
Prehaps your confusing it with the old Nanos.

phone companies say they have 300 hours of standby but it isnt true...
Actually, your partly right, and partly wrong. The '300' hours are if you dont touch the phone for that amount of time. But as thats a little silly, i find it best to take the standby time and use 1/3 of that as the practical usage time on a phone.

and whilst were on the topic of price all the people ive known have had their ipods become faulty or break after a period of 1-2 years...if you bought another one it would be a lot more expensive over a 2 year period in comparison to buying a N91...
And here we go again. Sigh. Why do people hold onto these notions that simply arnt true anymore?
Prehaps if they were 3g ones then there might be a leg to stand on. But all iPods ive heard of since havnt been anymore faulty than their nearest competitor.

and the titanium makes it that slightly more durable :)
You are aware that iPods have metal backings to them arnt you?
+ Im havnt brought up about durability because its depends entirely on the user.

i cant find the link but i got a screenshot i took...
So you take random screenshots of websites for the sake of it? :p
Sorry, but that 'screenshot' could quite easyily have been fabricated.

how about googling for 'n91 e3c'. it's not terrible difficult, is it?

http://www.newmobile.nl/eur/en/news.php?news_id=bee58a <--- there it is. The first link google provieds, strangely enough.

What can be noticed is that both score high on audio quality, but it is also becomes clear that the iPod sounds better with the Sennheiser headset. Terms like "better covered" or "sounding better over the complete range" were mentioned during the test.

Because not every one uses such a headset on the street, we used a second headset; the ultimate headset for any mobile user; the Shure E3c. Not well-known at the main customer and with a price range around the price of a new iPod the headset shows a value not seen elsewhere. More about that in the next part of the test.

you find me a test as thorough that says otherwise.

WHY would i LIE about my N91 saying its better than my IPOD 5G when i have them both? either you dont want to believe me or you only have an ipod to base your judgement from!

i can take a picture of both and upload a picture of them if you want me to prove that i have both of them...

ipod 5g's only have 10 hours battery life it doesnt matter what reviews say when the product came out because theyre bias, try reading user reviews on forums...at half or just above half volume the battery life is around 8-12 hours 10 hours average

and a lot of forum members get around 15 hours + playback with their N91 without taking calls or any mobile stuff and they get around 16-19 hours when its in offline mode...i get around 25 hours of playback (only tried it once) the best my ipod has given me is 15 hours and that was because i didnt go to the menu once apart from choosing a song to start with and the volume was realtively low

the ipod may have a metal back but touch its screen or anywhere else and you get an immediate scratch...and please dont defend the ipod build quality, you know, i know and so does everyone else, its crap to say the best...join any forums and youll see...ive even read in apple magazines people writing in about complaints of there ipod build quality and reliability

and answer me this: why do reviews say it has around 3 hours of call time but only 6 hours of music playback? call time depletes the battery around 4 times (at the least) more than playing music does so why would playback time only be 2 times as long?
