Yes or No?

How much did you get in the PX?:p

I paid £170 + My Asus HD7970GHz DCU2 w' 1 year remaining warranty

For an Asus ROG 780TI Matrix Platinum w' 2 years remaining warranty

I could have kept the 7970 and bought a 280X DCU2 for crossfire for £120.

So I paid £50 more to have the TI Matrix vs 7970/280X crossfire. But it meant I didn't have to buy a new PSU.

Say that you own a 980TI

Nope too rich for me...but i just meant there would likely be no qualitative difference surely for the same class of gpu...maybe a few more min fps on an already good min fps...a few more max fps on an already a good max fps...The longevity of card wont be significantly different..unlike say 16nm next year.

Actually, you would be able to clear something up for me then.

When you remove the cooler, does this card still have heatsinks on the VRM's?

It's just that I have universal EK blocks.

Yes and on the VRMs too.

I'm also using a universal block, the Thermosphere.

I've removed the memory heatsink (which is basically a bit of flat aluminum which covers all the memory chips) and have a 120mm fan blowing over the memory and VRM.

Same on the thermosphere.

Why did you remove the sink from the ram?

Cause I wanted to remove the back plate to use a multimeter on the voltage points. You can't access them from the front or through the back plate :( and the memory heatsink part is only held in with screws connected directly to the back plate.

I've ordered one of these

Which i'll attach two 120mm fans too and have blowing air directly onto the ram chips and the VRM

I would go for it. I changed from 290x crossfire to titan x due to AMD's terrible driver support and can't see me going back a very long time. Just to add I am very happy with my new cards performance in new games.
