YES, pets at work!

I used to work in a large office and one Monday morning came in to find a large, no longer, steaming dog turd underneath it. Several other people came in and realised that their desks were also within a well marked territory of the beast. It seemed that one of the directors was working on Sunday and had brought his prize pooch with him for company.

Whilst I commend his commitment and work ethic, the whole office did thoroughly enjoy the sight of a very pompous director on his hands and knees scrubbing the floor under my desk. :D

So, to summarize, it is a workplace not a petting zoo.

"Guess what Sequoia makes in his Asian sweat-shop"

I vote for pirate DVDs.
If only you knew how ironic that was. Actually, given the comments I've made about copyright in the past, maybe you do know how ironic it is. ;) :D

Oh, and to narrow your options down a bit, I don't have a factory of any description, sweat-shop or otherwise.

What about allergies? Anyone see a lawsuit in the making?

Seriously, I'd have no problem with a well behaved cat or dog around the place (and it used to be that a lot of offices and work places had a cat to catch mice) but the simple fact is that I couldn't work in an office with a dog in it because it would give me chronic hayfever, while an office bird would set off my asthma.

Too many opportunities for problems and conflict. All you need is a cat-lover, and someone allergic to cats. Etc.

The workplace, in my view, is not the place for animals ...... unless you happen to be a vet.

EDIT ....

I certainly can foresee the former. The latter .... ? Maybe.

Don't you worry, I'm pretty much certain I know about your company, but then it's not very hard to figure out :p

Between allergies and phobias (of which I have neither) it would be inappropriate for the work place. I would like a pet but cannot have one as I am out working all day (I think it would be unfair on the animal). Even if this was allowed I would not have a pet and bring it into the office.

It depends on the job you do and the size of the office, whether or not it's appropriate or not. In my line of work it would be perfectly acceptable, there's a small office of 6 blokes, who all like dogs, but can't have dogs of their own due to being out all day, so it really wouldn't be a problem.

Used to be that nurses on wards took it in turns to bring their dogs into hospitals and took them around cheering up all the patients, kids in particular. Never happen now though.

You just need knowledge of some posts he made around a year ago I think.

(I'm probably wrong anyways :p)

I'd guess you're wrong. If you could identify anything from what I've said on here, I'd be astonished, because I've been VERY careful to make nothing more than very oblique references.

But I'll tell you what. Just this once, I'll make an offer. Name the company you're thinking of, and if you're right, I'll (truthfully) confirm it. But this is a one-shot deal for Carzy only, because I'm not going to play 20 Questions over it.

I'll say one more thing, though. While I have investments in some well-known companies, my own operations aren't on that scale. I'd be absolutely astonished if most, or indeed ANY, members here had ever heard of my own companies. They aren't public-facing, and I'd be very surprised if anybody at all had heard of them. Or me.

A lot of people seem to think that there's some great mystery over all this, or that I'm somehow famous, or that I'm hinting at that. There isn't, and I'm not and I wasn't. I've said all this before, but it doesn't seem to quash the aura of 'mystery'. So I'll say it again. There is NO mystery. I just have a very great regard for my own privacy.

I guess some of my own remarks don't help. That "ironic" crack is probably one of them. So I'll explain it. I have shares in several music companies, and also some friends in that business. The notion of me making pirate DVDs is farcical. I don't even own any, let alone make them. But there's nothing more to my remark than that, despite how it may (unintentionally) have seemed.

Oh, and Carzy ..... I'm not sure what you think I said a year ago, but I've only been here about 10 months.
