Yet another fail thread... replacement cheapskate car!

I guess cheap cars are only cheap if your time has no value :p

That's what I was thinking as I read the entire thread. Parts are cheap but you must have spent ages on it. Still you seem to be doing a good job.

Not sure I would dedicate that much time to a Rover, but hey each to there own choice of car.

Lots of progress, took pretty much the whole front end apart (you'd be surprised how close to the truth that is!) and got the gearbox off, replaced the clutch, and got it back on.

Now to get the running gear back on, fit the new exhaust and decat, and blow the cobwebs out. Roll on tomorrow.

Also ordered a boost controller, so I can set it to 12psi instead of 9.7 it's currently pushing.

It's hardly wasted time though, is it?

I can't see what the big deal about spending time getting it running is, at least he seems to be taking care of it rather than bodging it with temporary repairs. *cough*

I'm choosing to do this one properly as it's in great nick despite it's age, and it drives lovely.

Gearbox back on after a clean (was much worse before!)

Going to go outside now (in the rain..) to fit the rest, should be done by later. :)

Your mad but I applaud your commitment. I need to change the thermostat on mine. I have had the bits to do it for about 7 months just don't have the botherdness to get it done... I might have a go this afternoon depending what Rachael is wearing on countdown that could be a showstopper tbh....

Well I changed my thermostat instead of Oggling Rachael Riley (V+ always good). Not a patch on what you are doing but my heater is lovely and warm now...

Your still mental..

I've always been mental. :p

Got it all back together, working brilliant
Until... clutch pedal to floor!

Being a cheapskate, I hadn't replaced the slave cylinder, which do wear quite badly on these. Luckily it's external, so I whipped it off after I found a puddle of brake fluid on the floor under where it's located. :p

Apologies for rubbish photos. :o

So yeah, that's pretty corroded.

As you can see, all a bit old and flakey.

I'm still debating cleaning it up and seeing if it'll go back on, but it's a sod if it pops again and I have to drive with no clutch.

Good news, is I have a spare.

I was talking about your car when I said if it's working, not mine :p

You live like 5 minutes away, I'm not going to drive to yours! No idea what I'm looking at in the pics. My car doesn't have these 'hydraulic' things... good old clutch cable for me thanks!

Well, the car has been with it's new owner for over a year and it's still going strong.

He's looking at selling up, and I could have it back with a couple of bits of work done, an MOT for not too much more than I originally paid.

Do I sell the 75 and get this back? :p
