Yet more proof that MS know Vista is poor

Ok, well *** scroll bar is just about touching the CANCEL button, so thats about a third of the way done. its 11:51 so thats 9 minutes in already.

I wil grab another screnie here and install some FTP program to get these pics up and linked.

FR..

not looked through the thread..

do you have defender real-time scanning turned on? do you have an av on? do you have system restore on?

turn all 3 off and install should be much quicker...

Pre-SP1 had problems with usb devices

11:57 and CuteFTP just crashed on me... I remembered that it does that so I will grab the patch shortly, but the Scroll bar is only now coming off the CANCEL button and I am over 15 minutes, so, that alone says enough to me.

I normally use NOD32
Right now, I have thrown the free version of Avast on.
I had thought of that yes, so they are disabled... I disabled them when I was on UT3 and they are still off.

12:01 means thats 20 minutes

I am using a VLITE Disk that I intergrated SP! into the disk... I have not seen any difference at all between SP1 and no SP.

I've only just started using Vista and so far my impressions are that it's no quicker nor slower than XP and it takes me longer to find things. Oh and it looks pretty.

It takes you longer to find things because you've yet to master the favourite links location and also find as you type start menu. Once you've mastered them you'll change your mind. Vista is the superior OS.

LKisten guys, while sure enough I am having a stoppy moan, please for gods sake, dont take this the wrong way... If any one of you could turn turn around and say "Have you tried this or that" and I do it and get this setup working right, I will be over the bloody moon, I mean, FFS I have bought Vista and so sure enough I want it to work for me, dont think for one minutes I dont, but its also so bloody upsetting too..

Hang on another screenie coming up... Ok, 12:06 and COD4 has finished, so, I started it off at 11:41 so its taken 25 minutes to install.

So, please believe me, when I say that this is exactly what has been happening every time I have tried Vista. I have never had XP64 be this slow... NEVER.

Anyway, should you give a stuff, here are the screenies that I kept grabbing... Only really to show the progress bar and the time... The rest of the screen will no doubt show the Forums posts and so on...

Never heard of that one.

Daemon tools I find is great, however I have a couple of issues with it... I am not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but...

Issue 1
Under 32Bit, when you install awxDTools, you can then right click on an ISO and select MOUNT TO and then mount it to the Drive Letter that you want, but under 64Bit, it never works? - never has for me, on any 64Bit PC, so I have stopped trying.

Issue 2
Have you noticed that even though they changed it to "LITE" it is now twice the size?
How bloody ridiculous is that?

Anyway, the speed is fine under XP64 its only vista... I will never the less give it a go... Providing its free of course.

Thanks.

Hardly surprising. Vista is running fine but any installations or uninstallations even with small applications, are taking ages which bothered me a lot, regardless of system setup.

Stability of Vista is very good but then slower machines are useless with Vista so they would be better off with XP. Thats the big problem with retailers selling under specied PCs or laptops with Vista installed.

Well TBF I laugh at any website that still thinks Vista is slow and crap because base don my experience if I’m keeping up to date with a new OS I also update my hardware to match and because of this have had zero issues in both 32 and 64bit versions of Vista.

we still use XP on a lot of machines at work, but that is purely to support legacy (e.g DOS) applications.

I use Vista on all my machines now, and even pre-SP1, I think it's a marked improvement over XP

By the number of issues you are having I would say that something has gone wrong with the SP1 integration using Vlite.

Reinstall Vista, activate and then install SP1.

I have been trying on and off for over a year.

The issues are there whether its SP or not!

Sure enough, the SP1 may very well cause me problems, but seeing as its got problems without it anyway, it seems harly worth worrying about.

On a lighter note...

I am ignoring the usual "Issue" suspects at this time, and I am working through looking for anything that I have not seen before, and I am happy to announce that at this time, there are none.

Many things are merely personal thigns that many people also change, and there are still a couple of irritants that as I said, I am trying to ignore, they may go away, or I may sort out, I just dont know, but for now, they are there and they are doing me no harm per se.

Now, on to why I put Vista on, and I am kind of trying to justify why other than the fact that I bought the software and dont want to waste my money, but Im not selling it to myself right now... DX10 is not doing any justice and sure, I can see tha Company of Heroes looks better ( But only the between-game animation, the game itself I cannot see anything same with COH-OF, And DOW-SoulStorm.. Nothing, UnReal Tourney III is the same too but with better Water reflections and I want so much to believe that the sun shining through the windows etc looks better but in all honesty, Im unsure if it really does.

I am really thinking that Vista = Placebo

Just because you want it to be better, you do think that way, but when it boils down to it, is it really any better at all?

Its certainly much slower at disk access and networking, however it does compensate for it with its own new set of tricks.

But, on the whole I have to be honest with myself... While Im still not at all impressed, its working a lot better than it has in the past ( Remember I had it running for a hwole month withotu a single glitch before, so Im not counting my chickens just yet... )

But on the whole its working and its working well enough for me to stick with it a little longer... Take that as a bonus.

Hmm... And now I have been completely unable to get iot to talk to the internet, even though all the other PCs can, and all PCs can see each other including this Vista one and this Vista one sees all other PCs, its only the internet with the Vista PC thats failed.

Go figure?

Ill give it another 2 hours and if I canot get it sorted then Im not going bother and it will be the final time I try as I have now had it up to here ( points to forehead ) with Tryign Vista on this PC... You think you have it and then somethign completely stupid goes wrong???

virtual clonedrive is made by slysoft (clonedvd, anydvd etc), vcd is a free product, doesn't include a 3rd party driver (STPD with daemon tools), or spyware in the installer :p

it 'just works'

Only reason i have not upgraded any pc's at work to Vista from our XP set up is simple. Im not paying to have a OS do somethign that we have already working fine and dandy.

Unless it does something fantastic, i dont see why i should pay to have over 2000 pc's upgraded to something that is going to confuse users even more with new bits that we just disable any way.

For me, its a cost issue, Vista does nto do anything over and above XP Pro that justifies the extra cost for me.

Yes ive used it, and to be honest, XP Pro 64 bit is fine for me, had it for 2 years, it works great and all my programs work with it. Why should i upgrade to something that does the same thng, just so i can give more money to MS?
