Council Tax Benefit confuses the hell out of me.

Person gets CT bill of (example) £500. Person then gets CTB of £500. Week later shock newspaper headlines as scrounger gets £500 benefits!!!!1123...

Why not just not give the person a CT bill in the first place? Wouldn't that be easier? It's not like the overall amount of money would change.

I don't and never will support ignorant blind people who speak badly about the people claiming asylum trying to avoid persecution, war and torture in their own countries where they were born and raised. But there is a fine line between claiming asylum for genuine reasons and scrounging off our Government. The system is flawed and needs drastic change because I'm tired of walking down the street as if I were in a foreign country. There should be a policy where the asylum seekers have to adapt to our culture and learn the English language.

Hit the nail of the head, people should look at the bigger picture. There far more people scrounging benefits because they don't want to work either because there lazy or how they were raised then they are asylum seekers willing to work damn hard. In fact, for every asylum seeker we send a benefits scrounge to their country and a get a taste of the harsh realities of the life some of the asylums faced.

technically no one should ever need claim asylum in the uk though.

As iirc legally you're meant to claim it in the first safe country you come too.

Unless there's a war in France I haven't heard about :o

It's our own fault for being such a soft touch, both with our weak borders and overly generous benefits.

But lets not forget other European countries have exactly the same problem.

I work damn hard for where I am at right this moment in time. I do know people who abuse the system because they can and there are holes all over the system. It's the fault of decision makers putting these rules into action in the first place.

The thing is I work because I choose too even if it means been paid less money than someone with children or on the dole. My personality and ethics don't want to be part of the sociaty that do cream every penny. I am proud to say I don't do this.

You're right - asylum seekers are supposed to stop at the nearest safe place, yet somehow they all end up here, presumably because our benefit system is hilariously lax (for all concerned - lazy inbred natives included) so it's worth their while to get here.

Maybe it's just because I'm not made of money, but if I was fleeing from being killed I'd stop at the first safe place!

Assuming that all the countries on the journey don't give a monkeys and let them travel through, why do we let them stay? Surely it's "Hi, I'd like to claim asylum as since I became a Christian they're trying to kill me"... "You just got off the Eurostar from France"... "<Silence>"... "Well no, you can't claim asylum. You came here from France and in France they are not trying to kill you. You can like anyone else chose to immigrate from France to the UK and go through the whole skilled worker process, but you can't claim asylum as in France they are not trying to kill you. Otherwise back to France you go. Bye".
