As title really. I have an X1900XT that was fine all through yesterday afternoon and was playing Prey quite happily. The machine was switched off last night and then switched back on again a little later on and I was greeted with the flashing red letters "You have not connected power to your graphics card" or something to that effect. :(

I switched the machine off and checked all the cables but I still got the same message. I changed the PCIE cable and also changed the modular connection on the psu to see if that made any difference - it didn't.

This morning and I still got the same message. I tried one last time (without changing anything, cables etc) and I booted into the BIOS first - then rebooted from here. JOY! The card worked again and booted into Windows. My question to you is why did it not boot the first time?

Specs:

Tagan 580w Easycon
Sapphire X1900XT
Gigabyte DS4
2GB G.skill PC5400
Celeron 326 (Waiting for conroe ;) )
1x74GB Raptor
1x80GB Barracuda
SoundBlaster X-fi
3x120mm Fans

Thanks for any help. :)

Sorry to bump this thread, but I was wondering if changing my PSU to 'Split' mode instead of 'Combined' would make any difference? If I tried this would anything be damaged?

It's a last attempt at fixing this problem before I RMA it. :(

No keep it at combined. That PSU should be fine for an x1900xt. Did you connect the pci-e connector to the blue plug on the psu?

I did yes, even tried both of the included cables and tried each in both of the connection points on the PSU, but still get the same issue. I can't understand it though, it runs fine once its fired up. Games play with no problem.

tagan is not the best psu around. its just 2 steps above a qtec, 1 step above a qtec being a hiperpower psu.

only two steps above a qtek .is that some kind of joke

I recently had this problem myself with my Gainward 7800GS Bliss, it's the one with the 7800GT core with 20pipes and comes fitted with a Arctic cooling silencer type fan.

I was getting low power warnings for the nvidia drivers stating my card had been down clocked to prevent any damage. This was happening after playing any games for about 5 minutes. Anyway I RMA'd the card and it was tested by Overclockers and returned to me saying they had tested it for 3 hours without problem.

When I put it back in my system it started giving me warnings after about 10 mins of playing a game. The only thing I hadn't tried was checking temps to see if card was running cool enough. Card was running a little hotter than normal, but I put that down to the heat wave were having in the UK. I decided to take the card out and clean the fan and heatsink, when I took the silencer apart the heatsink inside was full of dust and dog hair that had been sucked into my system (as it is very near the floor). Cleaned up put card back in, card was running about 6 to 8 degrees cooler and no more low power warnings. So just a thought it could be temp related, has the ambient temp in your case gone up a lot due the hot weather, it the fan on the card ok. Hope this helps.

One other thing, Tagan power supplies are very good quality supplies. The poster who stated they are only 2 steps up from a qtec, what makes you say this and can you back up your claim.

Is it running stable then at full speed? Try a different driver, long shot i know, but you never know.

It runs fine and I don't think drivers will make any difference as I get the message as soon as I switch the machine on. :(

Thanks for the welcome.

I've done a search and it appears the problem was mainly limited to older 480w models. Generally Tagans are good quality supplies, I certainly wouldn't put them anywhere near qtec for build quality.

Are you serious?

That must be a new joke or something? Tagan is a very good PSu. I had the 480, very very nice. So I don't know where you get off saying they're pap?
