Your Backup codes - Important

Breached accounts have been used to scam people on the members market. Significant numbers of people continue to use the same username and passwords on all their accounts. Once one thing gets breached, everything is breached.

As there is no buyer protection on the MM, strong account security is needed.

If someone hacks my Overclockers forums account, it probably won't affect my life
It might not affect yours but it could affect others.

As @b0rn2sk8 says, we've had instances where accounts have been compromised due to people reusing passwords and they've posted on the MM. Fortunately, in each case, they've been very easy to spot and nothing bad has happened but if your account was compromised and another member was defrauded, how would you feel?

We take security seriously, especially when money is involved and enforcing 2FA along with the recent changes for continued activity as a pre-requisite for MM access should have removed the chance for this to happen.

Big thanks to Feek for getting me back in!

Reminder to everyone to save your codes and remember what DOB you used…

Learnt the hard way today after changing phones several times and PCs.

Thankfully got helped by an admin but save those codes peeps !

Q. If I login with the same username and pwd from a new phone, is it supposed to let me in? Or do I need to find those backup codes too?

I just saved my backup codes to the notes section of google password manager. Thanks for the heads up about them Feek.

So sorry in advance. A switch from Android to iPhone and losing several accounts in Microsoft Authenticator has caught me out. I also printed out my backup codes and "put them somewhere save" aka I've lost them.

My proper account is .Griff. - could someone help me get back into that account please? I've had it since 2004 so it would be a shame to lose it.

I had the same problem. I'm keeping my old ph around too because the authentication code gets sent to the old phone. How, I've no idea.

I can't emphasise how important this is having had a 4 year inability to log in because I didn't save my backup codes!

Just rescued someone else who didn't have their backup codes saved.

Do the back up codes expire after a certain time requiring new ones to be generated? I've got mine saved to a screenshot I emailed to myself three years ago and wondered if they would still work if the worst happened.

Probably my general incompetence in all honesty but I’ve noticed when I need to enter my access code to carry on using the forum, it won’t work on my PC (Win 11, Firefox) yet if I enter the code in my iPhone it’s fine (and I can subsequently access the forum via my pc just fine…)
