This is mine, star gazing at Glacier Point in Yosemite in May. Stunning, humbling experience. I'd never done any real photography of the night sky so technically not great but it still blows my mind.
Admittedly not the most interesting shot I've ever taken but this is my favourite shot from a trip to Hamburg in August (click on the image for a higher-res version on Imgur).
This thread has made me realise I haven't done much fun photography this year, it's all been boring stuff for work.
I also didn't do much travelling in 2016 after the trip to Australia last year. I'm going to remedy that in 2017 but haven't decided where to go yet…
Silly o'clock in the morning and out in a tuktuk to the Top station tea plantations of Munnar in Kerala, India. After a 2 hour ride the driver drops us off and tells us to walk the last 1/4 mile.... this was around the bend.
As most people have said, it's quite difficult to pick a fave.
I think this one probably takes that 'favourite of the year' spot for me. I remember getting quite excited as I walked down to the beach when I realised I could get the boat into the shot. I was hoping for more 'glow' coming through the canvas of the sails but meh! Turned out ok
Close second is probably this shot. Rather than being hundreds of miles away on holiday, this shot was taken right outside my front door (literally!). Very convenient
This year has been mostly taken up with pictures of my daughter who was 1 a month ago. I love loads of the photos that I have taken so it's hard picking one but as it's Christmas around the corner here's one that I took recently that I love.
I suppose it's a good thing to say that this is a difficult choice as it means I'm quite satisfied with a few of my photos this year and definitely feel as though I'm improving with my photography.
If I have to pick then It'd probably be this one, one of the reasons being that I'd gone out a couple of weeks earlier to the same spot with a weather forecast which sounded promising for the kind of shot I wanted to take, up at 5am in the morning, I spent all day there basically disappointed but at least had a bit of a recce albeit with no photos to show from the day. A couple of weeks later I went back out knowing the light was going to be better, again up at 5am, and an hour and a half drive later I was greeted with this...
But I quite like this one as well, my first time shooting in fog and it encapsulated the scene I wanted to shoot, nothing planned, just a walk about at a local national park to me.
One from a session with an otter on Mull which involved tracking the otter while it was out in the water, to stalking it as it swam and dived then climbing over weed covered rocks to where I though it would come ashore to wash. All handheld with the big lens and quite physically and mentally demanding. I'm my own biggest critic but this set I was really happy with.
