Cant remember years (Too long ago
)
In no particular order, though probably roughly correct.
Nissan 100 (Driving school, c1978)
Anglea 105E (Still in the family)
Daf 44 (Wonderful car actually, really! I am not kidding I really loved it! one of the early CVT's and one that actually managed to generate a level of performance that punched well above what the 850cc 40BHP 2 cyl AC engine might have expected!)
Mk4 Zodiac (3L V6) Loved that car too, did whole loads to the engine. Unfortunately, that one ended badly and not down to me..![Frown :( :(](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/frown.gif)
Daimler 66 coupe (300BHP V12, Back in the dark ages you could do that at 21 and not get crucified by the inscos!![Big Grin :D :D](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/biggrin.gif)
![Big Grin :D :D](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/biggrin.gif)
)
Damn, I loved that car. Kick-down 1/2 under full throttle was like the stage separation on the Saturn 5 in the film Apollo 13. There was nothing refined about it at all, it was 60 in first with the magnificent V12 screaming at 6500 rpm before being slammed brutally into second, there was a brief pause between first and second, (That's where the "Stage separation" analogy, comes in
) then it was another astonishing wall of power up to 100. before another totally brutal slam into third!![Cool :cool: :cool:](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/cool.gif)
I am sure that (Like Boarding school) Modern cars are not only more refined but also a lot more powerful (My little brother has a 500BHP jag which is stupidly powerful and would have easily sucked the headlights out of my old Daimer, but I am sure it isn't anything like as much fun to drive.
)
Also, back in the 80's Cops didnt care. Pretty much the fastest I ever did in her was on the M25, I was in L3 passing slower traffic in L2, they were doing over 80, so I was doing 90+ All of a sudden I saw all these lights behind me.
Obviously they were not for me, but they were in a serious hurry.
So...
Choice.
#1 Slow down and try to find as gap to fit into... (And slow them down too)
#2 Hoof it and get as quickly as possible to the gap in the L2 traffic I could see half a mile ahead?
Well...
By the time I got the the relevant gap and I managed to pull over we were all going well over 130,
As I pulled over to allow the cops to pass, they gave me a nice little wave. Wouldn't happen today I imagine, I dare say my speeding ticket (and ban ) would have arrived in the post a couple of days later!![Mad :mad: :mad:](/styles/default/xenforo/vbSmilies/Normal/mad.gif)
(#Modernworldis****, is that how you do it these days?
)
Rover P6 2.0 TC (That flew, I "Did" stuff to it!
)
Jaguar 3.6 straight six (Very old don't get exited)
Jaguar 4.0 straight six (Also very old, don't get exited)
S2A Landrover (Currently rotting in my drive) She is beyond anything more than the most determined hope to be restored, but only by somebody who has far more resources than I do. but I do not want to see her go for scrap. (Much to the annoyance of the GF's), I will only get rid if I can find somebody who will take her over and look after her. In all seriousness is anybody interested?
VW T3 1.9 petrol (Later converted to 1.6 diesel, you could do that easily back in the day. I did over 100,000 on the original engine and another 150,000 miles on the diesel, I still have the van)
Landcruser 80 4.2TD. Current. Wonderful vehicle, Will drive till I die, this is the one that you will have to prise the black pump handle out of my cold dead hands for...
!
BMW 318 E36 compact 1994, also current, also wonderful vehicle. how can one possibly improve on the perfect small car????
VW T4 2.4D My current work vehicle, If the government really does anything stupid over diesel taxes I will have to retire. My business generates a useful income but not one that could aford the purchase of a brand new work van.
