Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHZ
AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0ghz (What a cpu this was)
AMD Ryzen 3600x @ 4.4ghz overclocked

Main PC:
First it had some Athlon 64 CPU I forgot which, it was a prebuilt Gateway PC gifted to me by someone. After limited research I foolishly went with Phenom II X4 940 as my next upgrade, I kinda want more CPU power, I consider waiting for Bulldozer... after reading bad reviews of Bulldozer CPUs I was like a big NOPE and went with Intel; i7-2600K (now used in my 3rd PC), then i7-7700K and still used in my main PC today.

2nd PC:
i5-4690K then emergency upgrade to i9-11900K after issue with Mini-ITX motherboard from Gigabyte.

Good to see AMD regain performance on their new CPUs post Bulldozer but Intel is still doing great so I don't consider AMD again.

If i remember right

DX2-66 (first PC envy of my friends who mostly had SX-33)
DX5-133
Pentium 166 MMX
Pentium 3 (I think 500mhz)
Athlon Thoroughbred 2200+ (I think) - this ran so hot had case panel off with desktop fan blowing in when gaming.

Core2duo 6420
i5 750
Haswell 4690k
Coffeelake 8600k
Coffeelake 9900k - current

Second PC had its own upgrades, stopped been pass me down after i5 750

i5 750 (the one from above)
Ryzen 2600X
Ryzen 5600G - current

I remember the jump to the dual core e6600 being a game changer.
The whole Core 2 line was just wonderful.

I went from a P4 3.2Ghz to a Q6600 and boy, the difference was extremely noticeable even in older games. Even with the i7 coming out after they still kept up with newer games.

I went from a P4 3.2Ghz to a Q6600 and boy, the difference was extremely noticeable even in older games. Even with the i7 coming out after they still kept up with newer games.

My dad was still using the FX-55 which was a single core beast, the e6600 wiped the floor with it. From all the upgrades ive had, that was easily the most notable.

Memory is a bit fussy on some of these and I may have missed one or two AMD CPU’s I had in the early 2000’s.

AMD K6-2 400MHz
AMD Duron 700MHz
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1GHz
AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred 1800+
AMD Athlon XP Barton 2500+ (had a nice OC on this, just don’t remember what it was)
AMD Athlon 64 (can’t quite remember what speed it was)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (don’t remember my OC)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3825MHz
Intel 2500K (can’t remember my OC as had it for a short period of time)
Intel 4770K @ 4.7GHz

AMD Ryzen 3600 @ 4.4GHz
AMD Ryzen 3900X
AMD Ryzen 5900X

ooooh a CPU history list...here's mine:

Intel Pentium 1 (166MHz speed) 1997 (first ever Family PC)
Intel Pentium II (couldnt remember the speed but this was used for the first ever machine I built back in 1999. Remember the Slot format? yes that rather elongated one lol)
AMD K5 400MHz (this was going to be used in the family PC til I realised it wouldnt work lol so I used it on another machine I built which unfortunately was stolen and that was a shame cos that was when I started to do overclocking back in 2000. If I remember right, the highest I had it OC'd to was 920MHz lol)
AMD Duron (got this one in 2001 with a system I put together. After 18mths it also got stolen, probably a good thing cos I was running Windows ME on it lol)
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (2004 this was purchased and it was at the time the best AMD CPU to posses. It was using the Barton core and it allowed me to overclock it to 2.2GHz from 1.8GHz with ease. 5yrs later, its now being used as my FTP server)
AMD Athlon X2 4400 2.2GHz (2006 I got this when I moved to dual core. Still being used today in a test machine which has Windows 7 Ultimate running. Till the HDD died on me so I am waiting to get new one lol)
AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3.0GHz (purchased 2007 for my first ever gaming machine, then moved to main machine status but I might use it as either another testing machine or just build it and sell it to someone)
Intel Q6600 2.40GHz OC'd to 3.6GHz (2008. Without a doubt definitely the best ever CPU I have purchased. Used for the new gaming machine. Parts will now be used as the new main machine)

Intel Core i7 920 Now in use for gaming and benchmarking :D

So there you have it :)
Guess it's time for an update on this list. Here goes:

Intel Core i7 4770K (Bought in 2015 and used in the main machine. Really good CPU and it was de-lidded for good measure, not by me though!)
Intel Core i7 5820K (also bought in 2015 and is still being used to this day in the gaming PC)
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (Bought in 2020 after the main PC housing the 4770K decided to pack in, though the CPU, Mobo and RAM were fine)
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X (Bought in 2021 to replace the 5 2600)

I plan to purchase the new AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPU. Might just wait until the hype has died before going for one. This will replace the Intel Core i7 5820K that has been doing well for the last 7 years I have had it. But with a baby on the way...funds will be tight to say the least. Why didn't I stay single?:cry::cry:

Im 40 years and and been into computers since i was 12... so i have had afew cpus

Intel 486DX2 33Mhz but had a turbo button to double it 66Mhz

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 @ 3.6Ghz
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 @ 3.6 Ghz

Intel i7 2700K @ 4.8Ghz
Intel i7 5930k then later 5960X @ 4.5Ghz
Intel i9 9900K @ 5Ghz

Lol my first was an INS 8060 at 4Mhz with around 320 BYTES of ram ! (Sinclair's first computer kit). Then a Z80 at around 2 Mhz. 8086 at 4Mhz (IBM pc) and an 80286 laptop with separate maths coprocessor chip that reached a blazing 12Mhz. First real PC was an 80386.

Intel Pentium lll (Believe it was 700mhz)
AMD Athlon 2500XP
Intel Q6600
Intel 2500K
AMD Ryzen 5 1600

Tend to do quite well at my PC's lasting a while. Do feel like upgrading my 1600 but then I doubt I'd see much benefit for my use. (Photoshop / A bit of gaming).

Phenom 955 (looooooved this CPU)
3570k
3700x

I only game at 1080p so can't see myself upgrading for a long time, I tend to get a good 5 years out of my CPU's

Pentium laptop something with MMX!
Pentium III something, burned it out trying to install Windows ME
AMD Duron (spitfire I think)
Athlon XP (cant remember which one)
Athlon 64 (cant remember which one)
Core 2 Duo E2200
Core 2 Duo E7400
2500k
8600k

1999 - PII 350MHz
2001 - Thunderbird 1400MHz
2004 - P4 2.8GHz HT
2006 - Pentium D 950 3.4GHz
2009 - Phenom II X2 550
2013 - i5-3470T
2015 - i7-4720HQ
2019 - i7-9750H
2022 - i7-11700K

I'm not sure what the clockspeed were for my latest 5 machines as it's not relevant any more. What is relevant nowadays is the Passmark score. The Thunderbird 1400 sure did fly though. On United Devices (cancer research programme), it benchmarked my T-bird 1400 against a P4 1500MHz and it said that the T-bird was 50% faster than the P4!
